Better hope not. The decision time in nuclear war is so short, and the danger so great, that when the nukes are fired you're faced with an impossible decision -- are any of them aimed at US? If so, we better launch everything we've got -- we don't want to die with our silos full of unfired rockets.

The situation would be that we don't know WHO did it -- and the consequences of NOT immediately launching should we also be targets is too high to ignore.

This is the fear with NK. They obviously have an ample supply of rockets. While they probably could not defend themselves against a super power if they got attacked they could launch every thing they have at Israel, SK, Japan and other non-aggressive/ally countries.

Nuclear war scare the hell out of me regardless of who does it on this planet. The two we dropped on Japan are firecrackers compared to what is available now. Burnt human flesh stays in one's nostrils for ever! Burnt bacon makes me wretch after all these years and the memory will never fade!
