    Trade War

Getting out of hand? Trump seems to be losing his cool.

Trump's in the equivalent of a land war in Asia. Blaming Powell. Classic Trump--try to burn everyone else's bridges behind them.

Who will win the trade war in the long run? us. On a side note has anybody noticed that we are now "energy independent" Only yesterday it seems we were dependent on Arab oil and Obama and the democrats said we couldn't "drill our way out" Evidently we did.

If America stopped buying Chinese goods, who would it hurt in the long haul? 50 years ago we bought nothing from Communist China why the big flap now?

It's good news. And if it's good to be here, then it's also good to stay here, right? Which means staying locked in on energy efficiency. That's not how the oil companies think. They want it out of the ground and in the bank as fast as they can pump it. Which is why they tried to juke the administration into relaxing fuel efficiency standards. If you like $2.50 gas instead of $4 gas, thank a Prius driver in part, or some millennial who doesn't own a car.

Also it means Trump has no good reason to be kissing Saudi ass the way he is. But on your energy tangent, I agree. Good news.

True you could get your chicken de-beak-ers from Vietnam instead and not miss a beat. But auto and tech supply chains are heavily sourced in China. If you drive or use tech, you have exposure. Or wear shoes, esp. women's shoes.

Trump again has stated what everyone else already knows. China sells a LOT more to the U.S. than it buys. China needs us much more than we need them. Unfortunately some Chinese imports we need and do not or can not produce here. That's why Trump wanted to buy Greenland because of the rare earth minerals used to make LED bulbs and other technology. Trade agreements have recently been made and China immediately reneged on them.

Back in 1989 when H.W. Bush presented the gun control act of 1989, the predecessor of Clinton's 1994 gun control bill, that outlawed Chinese made guns, it should have included clothing, shoes and countless other items but of course, did not. Why just the guns, which were of good quality at that?

When looking at trade wars we/Trump needs to look into Chinese firms that operate here like the meat industries. Japan and China both have bought up a lot of farmland to produce grains and meats to ship back to China. Are these considered U.S. exports?

We should never import anything we can make here and make better and we don't need the rubber dog crap, x-ray glasses and other crappy items that used to be advertised in comic books.

The only things I would do different if I were Trump is I would establish other means of imported items that are essential then start to even out the trade slowly with China. Also, I would not export raw materials that we later buy back as finished products. In doing so all we've done is bypassed our own manufacturing to save a few bucks in lui of quality.

Allen and Boggs showing off their econ skills. In a nutshell, government-planned 1950s economy and standard of living. How conservative is that?

He says he does via the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977. Total bluff. US multis have assets in China. If he tried to force them to sever at fire sale prices, threatening to kill the Golden Goose, the line of business people ready to dig his grave would be so long that fights would break out. More chaos crap from the Trump playbook that the Chinese have now decoded. Think Trump has figured out that Xi will have a lot to say about the next election?

If I remember right it is 5-1 in favor of the Communists, not ideal for us.
China has more to lose then to gain, they are having to lower their prices to continue to compete in America. Our treasury, hence our Republic, benefits from the tariffs. Moronic demoncrats can't tell the difference anyway. I believe it was Harry Truman who said that if all economists were laid end to end they would point in all directions.

Democrats and RINO's are why we have the imbalance now.
