    California ammo law

Went to Dick's Sporting Goods today to buy some 12gauge trap loads, presented by drivers license for the mandatory background check and was rejected because my license(renewed last year) is not the new "enhanced" one. Needed my passport or birth certificate. I haven't seen my birth certificate in 50 years but luckily I have a current passport. My retired army ID card wasn't good enough.

      Boggs WTF?

Well John at least you had the right docs. A 'banger looking for shotgun ammo for his illegal sawed-off would have been turned away. A little harder for many, a lot harder for some.

A known muslim with questionable citizenship and NO credentials can become president of the United States but YOU are asked to show a birth certificate to purchase ammo having an Army ID card and DL? You may want to contact the NRA on this. It looks like either CA or Dick's is overstepping their authority. If they are legitimate then it appears your state has passed some "extra" gun control measures w/o anyone knowing about it. Have you tried WalMart or do they still sell ammo in CA?

banger won't have any trouble getting ammo,

restrict the law abiding to prevent others from breaking the law, that's seems to be your mantra

Fly commercial lately? Go to a stadium sporting event? Since when are security checks some huge and impossible violation of liberty?

Also: explain how the banger isn't inconvenienced by the new rule. It's always like the honest people get a cavity search but the crooks just go get a free box from their buddy. The guy has a magic ammo tree or something?

To be clear: I am pro-proactive about curbing illegal gun use. How is that bad?

You just know the banger filled out a 4473 on his shotgun.

If you are choosing to patronize Dick's, the joke is on you.

when was the last time you heard about a banger buying stuff retail?

last reports I read says if they have a record they steal, or send in a patsy to buy, (straw purchase)

and yes, regular concert goer, been patted down a few times, wife has her bag checked, but that it not relevant to buying ammo is it?

Yeah but it used to be that buying ammo was no different than buying beer. In most places it still is. I hear all of this railing about IDs, until it's time to vote, then no inconvenience is too great in the name of election security. Ballot box, cartridge box, at least be consistent about it. Oh except we don't give a crap about election security it turns out, if that means curbing Ivan's access to the computers.

If bangers bought stuff they wouldn't be bangers in the first place. Stealing and killing is what they do. Need a car---steal it, need a gun---steal it, need ammo---steal it, need a date---rape someone, need a place to stay for the night---break in to someone's home, need to stay warm---burn something down.

The last time I bought ammo at Academy Sports (over 20 years ago) I bought 4 22LR bricks. They escorted me to the cashier and waited till I left the store. I asked the guy "why don't you just hold a gun on me till I leave?". WM will do the same if you buy a gun but not if you buy just ammo. They have no problems at all with it.

                          I never worried about Ivan,,

the hanging chads, trunks full of ballots etc are what bothers me,

here in VA, you have to show ID to vote (DL works fine) and yes, I know they can be faked, and have an address,

                          but back to the ammo,,

is Cali still sending cops to the Reno Gunshow and Cabelas to check tags incase someone buys hi cap mags or ammo?

If I need ammo, I'll make it.
I don't shoot anymore but I still have all my reloading equipment.
How long before they restrict powder, primers ? Or do they already ?

If SHTF and we become a communist country we can always cast bullets and resize brass for reloading. We could make our own powder but it would only be black powder quality and not work in semi's. The main thing would be primers. Best to stock up (powders too) and replace as needed. As you know, if kept dry they last a long long time.
