I suspect that Biden was referring to white collar criminals rather than drunks. I am not sure that he is correct in saying that they should not go to jail but I would suggest that some of the sentences that you hear about for that kind of crime in the US are extreme and are far greater than sentences in most other countries, are very expensive to society and are far greater than are necessary to serve as a deterrentComment

So, it's news lately that some onerous sentences are being turned over with some kind of legislature.I suspect that Biden was referring to white collar criminals rather than drunks. There was a story tonight about how awful the 1990's were, with kids sleeping in bathtubs to be safe from flying bullets. They clamped down. Three strike and your out. Several other things passed. Now they are crying baby shoes for the poor convicts. Ahh, but the crime rate went down didn't it? I think the deterrent kind of worked. That was the point.
I've got another one, want to hear it? Ok. If a G.I. was standing outside his tent shaving in 1943 and got shot, he doesn't get to plead to St. Peter, I was just shaving, I wasn't even holding a gun. St. Peter: OK, thing got a little crazy, you get to come back to life.
Lowlife scumbag criminals are less deserving.Last edited by dryheat; 09-13-2019, 07:46.If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.Comment

Legalizing weed is a bad idea, why should a cop risk their life on harder stuff? Society will just legalize it as well and the public will pay the price for their stupidity.

More likely non-violent street crime, like drug possession or shoplifting on a small scale. I doubt he was talking about white collar criminals like Manafort or Cohen or the guy who ran the huge pyramid scheme awhile back and whose name escapes me at the moment. Those people so seldom get locked up so it doesn't rise to the level of a topic for a Democratic debate.I suspect that Biden was referring to white collar criminals rather than drunks. Many years ago, I was in a debate with some bleeding hearts, and they kept saying, "That isn't fair," "This is fair" -- as if they owned the concept of fairness. So, it's news lately that some onerous sentences are being turned over with some kind of legislature.
I challenged them -- give me a set of objective rules, so I can apply them to any situation and determine what's fair? Talk about stumbling and stuttering and whining!
Finally, they challenged me to come up with the rules -- I pointed out that I don't have to, I'm not the one telling other people what is and is not fair. But just to be a good guy, I'll try. I came up with this: "The first rule of fairness is fidelity to purpose."
If you pass a law to accomplish something, and it doesn't do that -- or even makes things worse -- that law is not fair by the first rule.Comment

The democrats are trying to re-write the laws for votes PERIOD. They want criminals in jail to be able to vote. They want pot legalized. They want murder legalized. They want all drug usage legalized. They want all non-violent crimes legalized. They want early prison releases for violent crime criminals. They want our guns confiscated. They want our constitution and Bill of Rights trashed. If they had their way prisons would not exist. They want all of America to look like Baltimore, Chicago, SF and all the other cities they have destroyed.Comment
