Blacks, seen one, you've seen 'em all ...

so says Rashida Tlaib. She says Whites can't tell the difference
so only Blacks should be in charge of facial recognition.

    Dly Mail

These democrats get loonier by the minute.
It's like watching an episode of Monty Pythons Flying Circus
    except it's even funnier.

Every Indian or Asian says the same about Americans. It's kind of a running joke.

        reminded me, for unknown reasons,

Wife and I spent a week in London about 10 yrs ago,

I had a customer\friend that was an Expat, married to an American ,

so I asked him what to expect, look out for etc etc,

after about 30 minutes of every thing I needed to look for , he had almost convinced me not to go, (theft, crime, etc, but he was an ex Nottingham police guy)

anyway, he also told me to wear dark shoes, and dark or earth tone clothes, and to relax, not be loud,

he said anytime they saw someone in white tennis shoes it was an American that ended up being a loud talker,,,

I bought a pair of Gray New Balance sneakers and wore them most of the trip, (other shoes were brown)

sure enough, I spy a guy wearing bright white shoes,, and yep, he was an American,,

Travelling abroad is an interesting time of American spotting. I know I stick out like a sore thumb because of my XL features, but you've been wise to dress down a bit (assuming you don't have a pair of white sneakers lying around at home). Your white shoe example sounds just like the don't wear khaki pants I've heard and read. Another dead giveaway.

Best advice is to ditch the baseball hats, get rid of anything sports related (sans Adidas). I don't know why but the African refuges in France had a strong affinity for 1990's Chicago Bulls hats and jerseys. Probably a bad joke there...

The most embarrassed I have ever been was on a train in Austria, several drunk Canadians were making complete fools of themselves when a nice Austrian business couple were sucked into their conversation. My wife and I just cowered in our seats and watched it unfold.

overall we had a great time,

took a bit to get the wife fed , she is celiac, but after the first day we got food (for her) figured out and enjoyed ourselves,

the beer in England is excellent, I still miss fresh cask ale

Worst were the "bangers" on the Dover- Calis. Fish and chips were ok, but watch out for their mustard; Thai food has nothing on it. I was stationed in Greece for 2 yrs, and most ashamed I was of my fellow americans was when wife and I were sitting in Lion Square....could hear a loud american coming, loud, shorts, big Canon or Pentax around his neck talking about the "dumb foreigners". They had a different pricing scheme; the Greek price, the GI price, the tourist price, and the German price. They remember the German occupation.

On the Continent, the English tourists stick out as much as in the Americans, in a way that is similar but slightly different. Fitting for cultural cousins.

A couple of years ago, wife and I took a long vacation to several European countries. By far, the most obnoxious tourists were from mainland China. You name it, rude behavior in restaurants, loud talking during concerts, incessant group photos and selfies.

It's also true. People can have difficulty distinguishing people outside of their own race from each other. White Northern Europeans have different hair colors which helps a bit but as an LEO I learned to question a positive I.D. from one witness of a person previously unknown to him/her of a race that was not their own. Two witnesses, well that was a little bit of a different story.

It's got to be harder for some races though. I'll use Asians as an example. No blondes, no redheads, not even brown hair plus they all look like they're half asleep.

Chinese, Japanese and Koreans can pick up on each other very quickly.

absolutely, and often they are more racist (or I guess hate each other for past actions) that most any other race

Yep, so can people from different parts of Africa, or whites from various parts of Europe, including Northern Europe. Not infallible but there are regional similarities. The thing to remember is you're talking about people picking up variations, sometimes slight variations in the various groups of their own race. For example, some areas of China produce people who are surprisingly tall, Vietnamese are much shorter and Koreans are somewhere in the middle. A standard non Asian American probably won't notice the differences but they will.

On hair - the black hair isn't 100%. More Koreans than you'd think actually have dark brown hair that you might not notice indoors but you'll see the highlights when they're outside. I haven't noticed that particular characteristic with other east Asians, not that I'm an authority.

Lyman is correct about the past grievances. Folks in that part of the world are certainly capable of holding a grudge - for generations. Their is also a strong tinge of actual racism, especially in Japan but it shows up in other parts of Asia as well.
