The one decent group of people in that part of the world, and for what? To curry favor with the Turkish dictator? This is what happens when a leader with no sense of morality gets elected.

Togor, do you know how hard it is to get a new building permit in Istanbul?"The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. Ullman -
Better to let people confirm it through their own media preferences, otherwise the source itself gets substituted as the issue. You know precisely of what I speak.Comment

Yes the Lump has screwed up....AGAIN! The most trust worthy, hardest and best fighters in that part of the world who listened to our promises and get stabbed in the back by us once more. AND they really like us for being Americans which the rest of the Arab world doesn't except to buy their oil.Comment

So invoke fatalism to let Trump off the hook? We've had the Kurds' back as best as we could since Saddam gassed some of them, and now this. It's one man's decision. Maybe some people are down with the word of the USA being for crap, but I am not. I don't mean this as a flame but it needs to be said.

Trump campaigned on withdrawing from foreign conflicts. However, pulling 150 men out from northern Syria because the Turks have said they're going in while retaining them in the rest of Syria is a bit puzzling to say the least. I don't think that its necessarily a matter of Trump being soft on Turkey as, he's still holding up F-35 sales despite their contribution of a nice piece of change to the program.
Interestingly, when we took out Saddam Hussein (which I opposed and told people who supported it that I thought it was a bad idea) we seem to have given little thought to the aftermath, as usual. Charlie Wilson was quoted above. Old Charlie was consistent on this stuff; speaking on the outcome in Afghanistan after we helped throw the Soviets out in the late 1980s said "these were great days and they were glorious..then we f...ed up the end game." Well sports fans, we're still doing it today. Joe Biden in one of his lucid moments said, after The Second Gulf War, that the smart thing would be to partition the country between the Shiites in the south, the Sunnis in the middle and the Kurds in the North. That is a logical solution if the Turks would tolerate an independent Kurdistan which they won't. I just hope they don't end up like the Armenians, but I am afraid they might.
Anyone who depends on the United States to honor its promises after our ends are achieved, or if it gets to be too much work, is a fool, especially if you aren't a European, yeah I said that and I mean it.
The below article succinctly spells out our deplorable treatment of the Kurds over 100 years. They aren't alone though, you can add in the Vietnamese, the Cubans, the Yazidis, and the Middle Eastern and north African Christians, among others, to the list of people who have bled in causes we supported or instigated and came to regret it. Some of them may have come to a bad end anyway but they sure didn't need us to cut the rug out from under them.
And one other thing....we apparently know about this because somebody leaked Trump's call with Erdogan; which is totally unacceptable and unfortunately is going to continue as lower level government functionaries try to undercut him at every turn.Comment
