    An $800,000 wrist watch ...

I guess it's really accurate although it seems to lack a big hand
and looks like it was made by a demented child.

      No, way too risky.
If I'd stolen it, I'd pick out all the diamonds and sell those.
      Deep six the carcass

A quality Swiss made autowinding mechanical 21 jewel watch adjusted to 5 positions and temperature is going to be in at least the low 5 figures by any maker. Something that has a name that brings status adds a lot more (a new low end Rolex is $10,000.00 at least) and the Tourbillon name is a big price multiplier. Add that its a custom job plus the white gold or platinum case and a all those diamonds you're looking at a whole lot of money, crown jewels kind of money.

Any decent mechanical watch today is bought because of an appreciation of old school high end mechanical craftsmanship (people on this forum get that) and, at the top price point, a status symbol. My old Casio sports watch I use for hunting and fishing will keep better time, but if I dress up at all I wear an heirloom 1965 vintage, 14k gold cased Hamilton Thin-o-Matic which is prettier and keeps time more than well enough. Interestingly the 1897 Elgin mid range 7 jewel hunter case pocket watch I had refurbished for a cousin of mine, according to her, keeps at least as good time as her Rolex Presidential with a diamond bezel that brings near the price of full size SUV. Yeah, my cuz and her husband can walk into the bank and smile.

Like the stolen watch, her watch is expensive jewelry that also keeps time.

Merc will correct me if I messed up anywhere.

My watch is a wind up inherited from my Father.
I got sick of sodding around with batteries.
Also have a neat solid gold pocket watch. I don't
              carry it, but I'm tempted.

                I have a nice Rorex,

as in Korean made counterfeit a friend picked up for me while there,

automatic, no battery, no wind up, and had fooled a few that thought it was a real Rolex,

                keeps good time too,,

I have an Omega Speedmaster Automatic I picked up in an estate,, have not had it long enough to keep it wound to check time,

my range watch, a windup a friend of my Father gave me, beat up ole USGI windup, he wore it for a bit either in VN, or in Angola, (he did some merc work)

I wind it up, set the time, and use it while at the range , put the band thru the handle of my shooting stool,

I have one of those too. It looks much nicer than most real Rolex's since it has a fake diamond for every number.

The one pictured looks like the face was left off. I guess it is for the people who just have to be different.

                    watches are bit status symbols,

Any watch that you can buy at Wallys can keep better time than any renaissance watch. That's not the point. There is a small click group from around the world that "work" with watches. Of course the Japanese guy is the winner of the award. No link.
Whew! hard to imagine, a guy with a 800K watch that lets a bum walk up and bum cigarettes. But hey, he probably still has a lot of money. There are so many rich people floating around it's hard to fathom.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

For that price, it should have had his wrist still in it!!
