    culvers shooting page

many moons ago when I first found and joined the culvers shooting page it was because it was a group of like minded people. they thought like I did and were interested in the same things that I was. did we have disagreements? sure. but they were more like family spats that were solved between those that were arguing.
you hashed it out online. or if the other family members complained you took it offline.
I don't belong to forums where people don't think like I do, I have no desire to try to convince people to believe the things I do. and I feel that anybody that comes here only to argue are like the little kid in your neighborhood that insults you from the safety of his mommy's porch.
I wonder if these people would voice the same opinions if they were in the room with us instead of just in front of the keyboard.

Frankly, I think if they acted in a face-to-face discussion as they act on this board, they'd learn an old Irish proverb, "There's many a man whose mouth has broken his nose."

But we wouldn't strike a child like that.

Actually, if you don't act like you do in day to day life, why are you even wasting your time here? There is no ignore button in life, some use it here. There is no bubble of rigid thought and philosophy, though some wish for its comfort here.

Vern's affinity to folksy Irish proverbs is well noted:

"Pity him who makes an opinion a certainty." Ah, we certainly do.

Well, you have a choice, which is, you can pay them attention, or, ignore them like I do.
Don't let the stooges get to you as that is their intent.

Well, everyone here knows why you are here and w/o you there would be absolutely no need in the ignore feature.

Nor a senile old codger, either. So I suppose they're safe.

i'm not advocating violence, but would you go into and AA meeting and tell everyone how well you can handle drugs and alcohol? or a reunion of Vietnam veterans and harp about how determined and resourceful the viet cong were?
who would do such a thing?

Guess what? Go to gunboards or k98kforum or elsewhere and some of this same stuff gets hashed out there. The difference is that in those moderated forums people can get banned if they take it too far so they learn to stay within limits. Lyman, who knows how many of these other forums operate, tries to bring a bit of that here and he gets a lot of blowback.

If someone needs a private space of only like minded people, they can go to Facebook. For as many times as I read an assumption about how I'll respond to some bit of news, I can only conclude I'm needed to bring some excitement to otherwise dull lives.

And why people leave this forum.
keep in mind, many left this forum not because of one side, or the other, but the way the conversations were done, and the way folks presented themselves,

as I have posted before, the guilty parties are on both sides of the arguments, one or 2 people have been the ones that tossed gasoline on the fire,,

my goal, as moderator , with very limited tools I have, is to get those folks in line, and get the few left to start actually discussing stuff (guns, politics etc) with out the vitriol that was here in the past

so if you want to blame someone for the downfall of this forum, look at both sides, and look also at the past moderators that walked away
they apparently thought every one would get along,, seems in hindsight , they were wrong,

                          about that ignore,,,

some folks that claim to use it also seem to post a lot about stuff or comments that are supposed to be ignored,, ( think about that)

and not many post elsewhere in this forum, as in start a conversation,

Exactly. Gentlemen can disagree without rancor. Some of us need a lesson.

Was there an exit survey that disclosed why someone left, or was there just a scan of local obituaries?
