How can Virginia flout the SCOTUS and get away with it ? ...

Can they just willy nilly ignore the Court's decision
without any ramifications ? Does this mean that more lower
court actions will have to be brought ?
If so, then what good was the following decision by the Supreme Court ?

"Northam’s allies in Richmond have proposed firearm confiscation legislation that would prohibit the sale and possession of commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms like the AR-15. The governor has stated that he intends to push legislation that would ban such firearms but grandfather possession by gun owners who register their firearms with the government.

Banning commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms under either proposal is unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court has made clear that governments cannot ban these firearms as they are “in common use” for lawful purposes.

Taken alone, Justice Antonin Scalia’s opinion in Heller is enough to dispose of Northam’s comments. In the decision, Justice Scalia made clear that the types of firearms protected by the Second Amendment include those “in common use at the time” for “lawful purposes like self-defense.”

They could put them under NFA type rules, including tax stamps and fingerprints. Oh man the howls of protest that would flow from that. Note to Lyman: not endorsing this, just offering an on-topic comment to the OP. Anything you read into this is wrong.

Lyman you could put aside your tDS (togor Derangement Syndrome) for the moment and contribute to the thread.

You make your living selling guns and stories to Ol' Boys. In the unlikely event VA laws change, how will they take it? Turn outlaw like their bootlegger papaws? I'd guess "no" but you know the area.

DT some bans are on the books. Since Heller the court has steered clear of gun cases. Maybe that changes. But NFA type regulation is still an option and possibly more onerous to the locals.

Actually you make every thread in which I post about me or my motives, and now name-calling to boot.

Genuinely interested in your take as a Virginia based FFL if you feel like making a genuine contribution to an actual 2A thread.

saying you are a narcissist is not calling you a name,

                  surely you know that,

as far as my opinion as a FFL, I have stated that in many many threads already,

again, making it all about you

Okay, fine, the terms label and name are often used interchangeably in conversation, but to be pedantic about it, "Bob" is name, "jerk", "narcissist", "traitor", etc., are labels.

You've made no effort to contribute to the thread besides target me. That would seem to make you part of the problem now. Congratulations? Welcome to the team?

DT, here is a NPR link about the 7th Circuit upholding the Highland Park ban.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held that two gun owners who sued Cook County have not persuaded the court to revisit a prior decision declaring local gun ordinances legal.

It may go back to the SCOTUS if circuits come into clear disagreement, but I doubt very much that they will ever go so far as to say that anything goes with firearms. That is my personal take on it. Time will tell.

betting this one gets bounced around some more, since the law is apparently still a bit vague,
then again, the courts may not want to set a precedent by giving a clear definition of Assault Weapon,,
