You can make a difference sometimes.

Once, I was at seminar at SEMO University in Cape Girardeau, MO where the State’s Attorney was explaining recent changes to the MO firearm laws. Concealed carry was absolutely forbidden

At the time if you wanted to purchase a hand gun in MO you had to fill out an "Application To Purchase a Concealable Firearm," and get it signed by the head LEO in your area (County Sheriff/City Chief of Police).

I was the President of the local gun club with 75 dues paying members and I asked the AG a simple question: "If I get an approval to purchase a 'Concealable Firearm,' how can it be illegal for me to carry that weapon concealed?”

DUH??? Neither he nor his advisors could answer the question.

Shortly thereafter the law was scrapped including the application. It was years before CCW was legal in MO, but at least you could go into a shop and buy a K model S&W without having to first get it approved by the head LEO in the area. I'm not claiming I caused the change in the law, just that I asked a reasonable question to somebody that could change things.

I remember when back in the '60's I had to have the local PD chief sign an application for me to join the NRA. In the same time frame, I purchased A Ruger Blackhawk .357 from Montgomery Wards and only had to show my drivers license for proof of age. I like having my concealed permit. Saves a lot of time and paperwork when I buy a firearm now a days.
