South Carolina importance in 2020 election ????

We have been invaded by the wanna be's for president in the last couple days. I am pretty sure I know why but it's not going to change things in the final count. Biden, Warren, and Sanders were in Columbia,SC yesterday arm in arm marching on MLK birthday celebration. Buttigieg will be in my city today or either tomorrow at a black college. The talking heads on TV keep stating SC is a must if you want to win the presidency. They need to look at a few things before they open their pie hole. South Carolina has lost to the Democrats only once, that was the year Kennedy was killed. Their aim is to visit as many Afro-American colleges and churches as they can hoping to get the black vote. It ain't going to work because South Carolina's population is 67.8 % white and 27 % black and the balance Hispanic or other. In 2016 Trump took all Electoral votes (9) H. Clinton (0), Trump 1,155,389 H.Clinton 855,373 . Charleston,SC is a Democrat breeding ground but Senator Scott (African -American beat a Democrat in Charleston) and doing a great job. County and City elections Dem's do fairly well. I guess I'll have to keep listing how important we are..

Isn't Dick Harpootlian from South Carolina?

And isn't a harpootlian a fish spear propelled by intestinal gas?

      John,
Was District 96 where you folks were especially uncooperative during the Revolution?

And King's Mountain. I had a great-great-great-great grandfather, Moses Cavitt, who commanded a company of Overmountain Militia during that fracas.

Seems odd that delegates in states where the party doesn't have a shot in November still have a say in picking the candidate. I guess a better method is yet to be devised.

pardon me Mr Cook for going slightly off topic,

I was in Charleston for the Hunley Crew's funeral,

amazing place, even more so to be there on a beautiful day and see the procession and funeral,

one thing that amazed me, and correct me if things have changed, is that Charleston seemed to have it somewhat together,

what I mean is they seems to understand how the history of the area was a great tourist draw, and seemed to do well with it,

I've been there a couple times (and both times day trips to Savannah, ) with no issues, no drama, and not a hint of any discord, anywhere we went,

tourist traps,, surely some were (looking at you Hyman's seafood)

is it still that way? or is there some undercurrent of race relations that wants to change things?

saying and asking as a born and bred Richmond Native, who thinks if the City and surrounding areas got their heads out of their backsides and promoted the history (people been here since 1611 and a town since the early 1700's) the revenues and income would be amazing,

but we (city and counties) are too busy trying to destroy or change it all,,,,,,,,

              sad

Dick is what we call a "CRIB" Democrat also a YELLOW dog Democrat. At present he is a State Senator whose term expires in Nov. 2020..

That is correct. District 96 was broken up into counties late 1700-1800. There is currently a small town called Ninety -Six..

First, Mr. Cook died in 1952, I'm just John Charleston has come a long way since the 60's amid all the Civil Rights movements. It has settled down and you get a sense of cooperation of all who live there. There is a lot of history there to be seen and a tremendous amount of reconstruction of abandoned homes. Race relation is very good at present. Good food (if you know where to go). TV program "This old House" ran a series on two elderly African Americans ladies who purchased a run down home that their parents worked in as domestic help in late 1800. I guess they could have been called slaves. I found out you just don't go in there and start building with supplies from Home Depot. They have committees or boards that tell you what and how you are going to reconstruct said building . You even have to match the color of the exiting mortar that remains in the building. To meet this requirement sounds difficult but it's no problem. There is "cement" plant about 60-70- miles from Charleston and you just take a sample to them and they ask you how many bags you need. Bannister's, stairs, type of wood and design must meet period time. Wiring must be hidden and meet code, bricks in fireplace must meet time period and code. It gets to be a real challenge. Great Aquarium and you must take a cruise around the Harbor and visit Fort Sumter. ( seems like something happened there but slips my mind) It's a great town. I'm about 70 miles from there and visit my sister in law occasionally.
