This chink virus has been going on since the end of last year that we know of. Only 60+ have died here so far.
How many could die here if the virus is allowed to propagate wholly uncontrolled? What fraction of them over 65?

As things are going, very few proportionally.

The liberals and obamas judges should be held fully accountable here in the U.S. for any such spread.

Trump has been trying to close our borders for the past 3 1/2 years.

"Proportionally"? Love to see you put a number on that. Interested to get an idea of what your definition of "few" is. If Covid-19 takes 50K of your fellow seniors to meet Jesus, is that a shrug to you? 10K? 100K?

Also, if the number is on the low end of projections (something we both hope for I assume) will that be as a result of the drastic actions taken to limit spread, or because it was overblown? I was reading of a group of people, 9 out of 9 of which brought the virus back from a Nile river cruise. How do we blame borders or Obama judges for that?

Prediction: this is where you bail, throwing out a personal attack to cover your retreat, because you have no answers to the above (none of which is even remotely a bash at the current administration).

So no refinement of what "very few proportionally" means? Genuinely interested in what sort of numbers represent a significant event to you.

Less than 70 deaths so far. Most of them are probably people coming here from infected areas.

Do your own research, you have nothing but time on your hands. Look things up. That is your only source of information.

70 people compared to the hundreds of millions here is proportionally zero no matter what direction you want to go in, argue about and make meaningless comments here about.

Very interesting statement, really questions to supplement more questioning that you will again question. Togor is not interested in conversation just a platform to stand on. Togor is oppositional defiant in a juvenile way. Questioning an authority figure [teacher] as to why "he" is being punished with "his" reasoning to avoid any type of punishment. Togor's constant hatred of the President is evident and "his" need to stand on this platform to oppose anyone who does not agree with his negativity. Togey apparently is one of those people who would cut off his nose to spite his face. To disagree with him is to support his platform of negativity and thus he can continue on...is this something a sensible person wants to provide to Togey? It is one thing to disagree with another on an issue, it is a guarantee to open up a conversation of Togey's and expect anything other then opposition to what this administration does. If Togey saw the President walking on water Togey would argue the President is unable to swim.

The question is....how many people are susceptible to the disease if allowed to propagate unchecked? So far as we know, no one has natural immunity to this one. So anyone could get it, and spread it, even if their symptoms are minimal (like the way Americans just work through that cold virus).

However, 20% of the people, slanted towards the older folks, get a more severe case.

There are ~300 million in the country. If 50 million had it at any given time, and say 10% had a severe case that required close monitoring, preferably hospitalization, that's 5 million people looking for a bed. There are only about ~1M hospital beds in the country.

So counting deaths so far doesn't tell me anything about what you regard as an acceptable level of risk.

The analogy to wildland fire is useful. If you have 100,000 acres of tinder, and hot dry winds, then you ban camp fires, even though the average camp fire is only 0.0092% of an acre in size.

Added: Re: Trump. Possibly due to his near-miss at Mar-a-Lago, Trump is on board now with clamping down on this thing. So at this point some of you guys are playing catch-up with the rest of us. Even Fox has climbed on board, possibly due to the Manhattan location of their offices.

actually, he asked Smoke a valid question,

no doubt tho, he will counter and reuse that statement over and over again,

no mention of the admin,, , as togor stated, but we know it will come up, with Smoke's numbers, later,

Lyman in 4 weeks the trajectory of this will be known. My hope is that the fraction of severe cases turns out to be smaller than projected, which means this things washes over us without taking too many people out. As people get over it, transmission diminishes.

But...someone looking at the #'s in late Jan and saying "holy sh*t!!" with respect to the rest of the world outside of China would be dead-on right now. Even though it's still in the early stages.
