Israeli Nobel Laureate says Corona virus spread is slowing

Read the article. He makes a pretty good case for this and should help calm all the hysteria that is now going on.

His conclusion of natural immunity is anecdotal. The cruise ships are interesting laboratories, but people weren't just freely mingling.

Still if only 30% or fewer of the population get it in this first wave, and not all at once, then it's good news.

That said, epidemiologists cite 60% as the herd immunity threshold where outbreaks fizzle out. Absent a vaccine, this thing is going to be with us for awhile, as are these changes.

Death toll stats can be misquoted as well. People don't die from this right away, meaning that the mortality will be hard to peg down until there is more data. But certainly the ones dying now got sick at a time when the official counts of the infected were lower, suggesting a higher mortality. Contrarily, it is expected that the official tallies undercount the true number of infected by some multiplier. It takes time to sort this out.

Here what I do know if people don't get educated and pay attention to instructions then we are in for an interesting time. I work in a retail furniture store. All weekend, droves of families were out shopping with children from a few weeks of ago and up. I wanted to yell at them and thank them for putting all of us a risk.

In many Catholic Dioceses, the bishop has suspended the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday and canceled all public masses (the priests will still say Mass privately.) To my knowledge, this has never happened in my lifetime.

Catholic Priests have an obligation [according to one I heard speak] for praying for all. I for one can use an "in" from all quarters.

Indeed one of the liturgies ("Liturgy" means "public service") is to pray for all mankind.

Latest news from the talking heads is that this virus will be around all Summer. Travel restrictions will get worse, as in no interstate travel permitted. Maybe even rationing similar to WW2 rationing will be the norm. Street violence will increase as tempers are already rising. Guess I'll sit on my back deck, drink my homemade shine and keep my AR and AK handy.

A lot of guns out there. The argument has always been that Americans can be trusted to act responsibly while armed to the teeth in a crisis. That has proven to be true in the country's history....so far.

I don't pay too much attention to the talking heads. Instead I try to keep up with the latest information and this is mostly positive.

The virus has stopped in China and there are very few new infections there. In this country the new infection curve has already started to flatten out.

The main stream media are responsible for all of the hysteria about this virus. Many more people in this country will die from the flu this year than from the Corona virus. The media have their own agenda and that is to create a situation that might help to bring down Trump as President. They know they will never be able to beat him in an honest election.

You must already have it. Nothing is flat. China is not reporting, same as Russia, and same as the current administration wishes had happened.

I find it incredibly hard to believe what your stated career was claimed to be, to make the statements that you do.

Several hundred new cases are now being identified each day, including about 700 on both Saturday and Sunday and nearly 900 on Monday. The pace of diagnosis is expected to quicken as the virus spreads and testing becomes more widely available. More state and private labs have started running tests for the coronavirus in recent days, increasing the capacity to identify new patients after weeks of delays and test kit shortages.

The outbreak looks vastly different today than it did just a couple of weeks ago. At the start of March, 70 cases had been reported in the United States, most of them tied to overseas travel. Since then, new cases have poured in, including more than 200 announced on Monday in New York State alone. More than 2,200 cases have been announced nationwide since Friday morning, and the virus is now spreading in parts of the country where it had not been identified as recently as a week ago.

Yeah, Sid is way off. Too many years listening to Rush and agreeing with him that the dangers of tobacco use are overstated. Contrarianism as a automatic reflex.

We'd all love it if this thing would run its course quickly and not be severe. But unfortunately, it is not, as we might sometimes say, "a fast cold". The damn thing takes its time coming and going.

To coin your phrase, what is that to those of us who do not have it?

The media proclaim they have a sacred mission to keep the people informed. Somehow or other, the notion that mission requires telling the truth escapes them
