    Make your own moonshine... legally.

Now you are stuck at home with nothing to do, make some 'shine, legally. The moonshiner TV series is largely a made up bunch of bologna. If you knew real moonshiners they would tell you they strive to produce an alcohol that is clean, pure, and tasteless. The alcohol that comes out of the distilling system at the Jack Daniels distillery is just that. The flavor comes from the charred white oak barrels the whiskey is aged in.

Around Northwest Arkansas you can buy 1.75L (59.18 oz) of Gem Clear or Ever Clear 190 proof (95% ABV) alcohol for $30 out the door. It is easy to turn that into a very drinkable 100 proof "oaked" whiskey. All you need is some charred oak chips and a proof and traille hydrometer. "Age" the full strength PGA on the oak chips for a week and then cut it to 90P with distilled water. You will have some very drinkable alcohol for about $10/liter.

You can make your own chips and use them 2 or 3 times and the hydrometer will last until you until you sample your run too many times and break it.

After Christmas, I take all the left over candy canes and dissolve them with the PGA and with a bit of experimenting... it becomes an American version of Peppermint Schnapps.

It is all legal... keep your receipt for the PGA... just in case.

Oak chips and hydrometers are available at many places. Here is one-

I make muscadine wine. I gave a gallon to a friend. He won't take any more -- he was up on the roof working, got hot and thirsty, came down and drank a water glass full of my wine, then went back up on the roof. He doesn't remember how he got down.

I've had Moonshine (not the store bought stuff) that enough starlight mints dissolved in it that it was almost like a syrup,

          and tasty,

blueberries are good too, crush a good handful (muddle) in a jar, add a handful of berries that have not been crushed, and fill with quality shine,

let sit a day, week, year,, whatever (if it lasts that long)

          good stuff
