            good point

in the book the Last Ship, those left (like On the Beach, WWIII had happened) holed up on a deserted and isolated island in the south pacific, (don't recall which one,)

another book that may be closer to what is happening now is Frank Herbert's, The White Plague,

basically, a dude and his wife are vacationing, dudes wife is killed by an IRA bomb in the UK,
dude is distraught, and develops a plague/virus to attach to some genetic marker supposedly only the Irish have (maybe red hair,, cannot remember the specifics, been a long while since I read it)

anyhoo,,, the plague/virus jumps and takes out a large percentage of the population, and not just of the UK,

Does anybody feel like we are not hearing the whole story? This is not a particularly deadly disease, though it is contagious. The Pres has, in effect, shut down the whole nation to deal with this. I can't help but feel we are not privy to what is really happening.

I feel the whole world is in this situation due to China. I don't believe anyone outside of China knew of the impact that was coming.

First off it originated in China. The Chinese government arrested the doctor (now dead) who tried to tell the world about it.

Next they built several hospitals, some within a 10 day timeframe. They utilized old vacant buildings as well, one of which collapsed, another being demolished both with patients inside. Suddenly they are concerned, tried to cover their tracks, and tried to stop the spread but way too late.

Next they tried to pin the blame on the U.S. Hopefully this will be remembered when trade talks resume.

Next they are pissed that anyone would even refer the virus as the "Chinese Virus" or "Kung Flu" to imply they had anything to do with it at all.

Now they are claiming zero new infections as the rest of the world suffers run away cases and deaths. I don't think anyone is buying this.

as a TV show once said,, The Truth is Out There,

we just may never know it,

some say if started in a fish mongers market
some say it is from eating bat soup,

some say if is just a variant strain that jumped host from poor sanitary and living conditions

some say the Chinese stole it from a Canadian research lab and released it,
some say it was accidently released (and some say intentionally) released from a Chinese research lab,

read on last night that said the entire deal was funded by Bill Gates and some other multibillionaires and released in different areas to test the systems and to get folks prepared for the new world order, financed and ran by Bill Gates,

and some say the millenials released it to kill off all the boomers to save the world,

                  any of the above true??

                  who knows

Hard times make people more conservative. If this plague reverses the globalization trend and restores the manufacturing/industrial base at the expense of the financial economy that will be beneficial. The 'easy money' crowd has really damaged this nation in the last several decades.

'The White Plague'. Good book. Virus was spread on currency, and only affected women of child bearing age. Planned Parenthood's designer disease.

As I have often said, I have no bad habits if you don't count cannibalism and necrophilia.

I never read that book but I wrote a short story in high school very similar. Two guys fishing on the lake when they see the mushroom cloud.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.
