Trump the optimist is surrounded by pessimists ...

When people are stuck in their homes with no paycheck
coming in and worrying where the next toilet roll is
coming from, it doesn't do much for their moral when
they're told it may be eighteen months before they can emerge.
Trump gets a little excited at the thought that the existing
Malaria drug might show promise and he's immediately
told no, no good thinking that. What the hell, the drug is
showing some good results so what's wrong with a little
    optimism ?

You want to be straight with people, which includes telling them that there is no sure thing about any drug currently.

There's no sure thing about anything, except death and taxes = and I'll add, Bills.
He didn't say it was a sure thing (you did) but it's sure worth trying.

Trump has done a better job of late at communicating the seriousness of the situation. The wave really hasn't hit yet, not by a long shot.

Apparently you missed his tirade at the easiest softball question a reporter could ask. Also, standby by for Dr. Fauci's exit for embarrassing him.

But what does that mean, "worth trying?" There are several drugs in testing now. They're all being "tried." How does that one drug stand above the others?

Missed that. Too good to last I guess.

Fauci won't go anywhere I hope.

If this thing overruns us, we will be glad for any and all supplies the Asian factories can send. Not what Trump was expecting when he decided to run.

I have a bottle of Bombay Sapphire, so I guess I should scratch tonic water off the shopping list?

And should we disrupt the supplies of these drugs to people who currently need them?

Well, you picked the right word, Apocalypse.

When dealing with a paranoid population not to give "hope" can only increase the paranoia. On the other hand saying there is a cure is quite foolish as well as dangerous. There has to be a balance of this is a possible maybe so we are testing to see if it can help some if not all. The drug has been around for over 50 years so medicine has some idea of it's potential. Attacking the virus with this drug could help some so why not use it?
One of the cancer meds that I was given is an anti-psychotropic which can also be used to combat cancer. People want a pill now and to go on with their life, this is not going to happen. I understand illogical fear and am seeing some of it. Going to the store I also see people with the attitude of not me. This virus is having society come to a screeching halt and many are feeling pain from it, others nary a ripple. If your boat is sinking then bail, don't just watch the water pour in. I am as frightened as any one else, I am not scared as there is not time for that. One night my partner and I got into a chase, rammed the other vehicle and jumped over train tracks at 120 MPH flying thru the air like the Dukes of Hazard. When it was all over and we cuffed the guy only then did I start to shake, my partner had a heck of a time lighting his cigar.
