    Let there be light!

About 10 minutes ago, the power failed. Fifteen seconds later, it was back on, thanks to my new backup 48 Kw generator -- it's humming away, powering the whole house.

I thought I wouldn't need it until next January or thereabouts, but I'm enjoying it right now.

A 48 KW? I had a 15 KW Generac and it would run a 3 BR house including HVAC.

        To brag?

48kW is a big unit even with a couple of out buildings. The argument for is that it can power a 200A service panel with no thought to power reductions. Electric dryer? No problem!

The argument against is efficiency and losses at low output. If powered on LP, the needle on the tank will drop disappointingly fast, even at low output, compared to a smaller unit.

When I built this house, I realized it was the last house I would ever build, and I decided to build what I wanted.

You must have a wonderful 5,000 square foot home with 5 bedrooms, 5 baths, and a 50 meter olympic swimming pool. More power to you!

BTW... when I built my house I thought I would die there, but I was wrong.

Same here, 4,300 foot cabin only I have a 9375 dual fuel as we always intended to go solar to get off the power grid. Hopeful by the end of summer we will have accomplished that.
The only thing I need to add in is another wood stove to the tune of 4.

No swimming pool -- I have a nice swimming and fishing hole down on the creek, which I can see from the front porch.

Yep! Cabins don't necessarily have to be small. I have posted pictures before as the home is under construction and maybe more later on. Have found a few things that I have to redo as they don't work satisfactorily. Part of the 60' ramp has to be redone as it proved too step in the winter to bring up loads of wood.

It's called a barn at that point.

It didn't start out that way, my Amish buddies just like to build! Alot of ice cream and soda pop went into the build that is for sure! Actually with their connections Issac saved me a bundle of money. Other's priced the metal roof at $8500, he did it for $2700 in delivered materials direct from the WV manufacturer. Having a big home is a joy for us in the winter we have a great deal of pleasure. Having a solar roof in the greenhouse eliminates Seasonal Affective Disorder, < electrical cost for lighting in part of the cabin. Takes a few minutes to go for a warm winter walk and watch it snow outside while staying warm. Definitely for us, bigger was better!
