    Years passed away

Years passed away and at last one day
Came a Squaw with a story strange
Of a long deserted line of traps
    Way back the Bighorn Range

And -- prepare to be shocked
Of a Wal Mart in Clinton Arkansas
    Whose shelves are fully stocked!

    (apologies to Robert Service)

My daughter, Carolyn came out to the farm Friday from her place in Little Rock and walked into the house with her eyes goggling -- "It's like leaving a Third World country and coming to the United States! The shelves are full! They even have toilet paper!"

Today Jane and I went to Clinton, got a big mac at the drive in window, then went to Wal Mart. I filled the tank for $1.58 a gallon (it's $1.95 in Mountain View) and went into MOPP 4 (Mission Oriented Protective Posture, level 4) and went into the store while Jane stayed in the truck.

It's true! The streets are paved with gold and the shelves with toilet paper!

I headed back to my truck with a case under my left arm and my right hand on the butt of my pistol.

MOPP 4 is too frigging hot. I actually though about it.

When I was in the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea, we used to do 24 hours in MOPP 4 every three months. You had to watch each other closely, because some people would pass out from carbon dioxide build-up.
