These ridiculous arrests won't help police image ...

With the public in general and will only increase the
antagonism of those who dislike cops to begin with.
Arresting people for jogging while letting child rapists
and violent criminals out of prison so they don't catch
the virus has to be a policy dreamed up by a bureaucrat,
as who else could be that stupid. Why some cops go along
with the directive is another mystery although there will
always be those who'll enforce a law no matter how
    tyrannical that law is.

Yes and no. In times past -- as late as the 1890s -- people were shot for violating quarantines. There is a photo in the Casemate Museum at Fort Monroe showing a quarantine line outside Hampton, Virginia, armed with men with 1892 Winchesters.

Quit complaining about cops, they don't make the law just enforce what the legislators make. Cops don't release from jail, judges do.

That was the Nazi SS excuse - they were only doing what they were told.
Thanks for informing me about Judges. I didn't know they anything to do with locking people up or letting them out.

Don't be ridiculous. When was a jogger shot?

I point out that quarantines are necessary at times -- and this looks like one of those times.

During the county quarantine in 1918-19 the sheriff shot a man who refused to obey, at the rail stop at the east end of the valley. Don't know if he died.

This doesn't have to do with quarantine, but when I was in the 30th Infantry at Fort Sill, the Artillery's idea of discipline was, "Send 'em to the Infantry." So we had a lot of bad apples in the unit. At the same time, we caught a lot of details. If you saw a prison work detail, with a shotgun chaser, the odds were some of the prisoners were mine, and so was the chaser.

There was a work detail on the golf course, which has beautiful arched stone bridges over a little creek. One of the prisoners (one of mine) said to the chaser (one of mine), "Hey, man, if I was to run would you shoot me?"

                    Chaser: "Yeah, I'd shoot ya."

Prisoner, "Naw, man, I don't think ya would."

Chaser: Clunk-clunk (chambering a round in his Model 12.)

Prisoner: "I'm gone, man!" and he went running up a bridge. Just as he reached the top . . .

                    Chaser: BANG!

                    Prisoner; "I'm shot! I'm shot!"

Chaser: "Git up, man. You ain't shot."

                    Prisoner; "I'm shot! I'm shot!"

He kept saying that all the way to the hospital. But they couldn't find a hole. Then they realized the single pellet of double-ought buckshot that hit him had used an existing hole.

It was a long time before we had another prisoner try to run away.
