Except he's too intense for smiling. If he wanted to throw dump trucks full of money around this should make him and AOC happy. Except it isn't all rainbows this way. Think where we'd be if we had financed college for everyone including five year olds. You know, chickens in every sink. Two cars in every garage. Basically blowing money without the thought of what the future might bring. Evidently we have enough money that maybe we could have accomplished both and still put a man on Mars. With a rover. A nice rover.
Bernie can go out smiling.

He's smiling and probably nodding his head thinking: "I can't believe all those dumba$$es who bought into the s**t I was spreading".
As said before, we have fought wars to prevent the spread of communism and here he was accepted by the left to run as a socialist/communist contender for president of the U.S. Just a few short years ago he/they would have been jailed for such and at one time executed for such an attempt.
As far fetched as that comment may sound now, it shows how far America has gone down the toilet by not upholding our integrity.Comment

Bernie seems to be a lot more comfortable ranting and being a fly in the ointment, pulling other leaders in his party to the left, than being an actual leader.
But I heard someone say yesterday that Bernie is the Far Left's Barry Goldwater. and just as Goldwater helped usher in the likes of Ronald Reagan to lead the nation, so to will Bernie Sanders help usher in a Socialist leader of the future. I hope for the sake of this Country that is not true but it certainly sounds rational.
Bernie's heart condition and age and his curious decision to keep digging himself deeper and deeper in defending Castro's Cuba made him even more unelectable this year than he was in 2016Comment

Goldwater of the left.... interesting idea. I have a photo of Sen. Goldwater, sent to my father after the '64 loss, along with a letter of thanks. Apparently dad felt motivated to send the Senator a letter of condolence. People did that back then.
Goldwater was not as extreme as people make him out to be. More libertarian than social conservative. By the end of his days he was showing impatience with the Moral Majority types, who were in fact neither moral or in the majority.Last edited by togor; 04-11-2020, 05:50.Comment

Goldwater was also dead on about the religious political leaders that infiltrated the Republican Right. Compromise is a four letter word today in modern American politics."The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. UllmanComment

Bernie didn't pull as much as he shoved to his left. The left will always be with America if nothing else as a failed object lesson.Bernie seems to be a lot more comfortable ranting and being a fly in the ointment, pulling other leaders in his party to the left, than being an actual leader.

Enjoying your taxpayer-supported old age and disability payments? Expecting to enjoy taxpayer subsidized health care when your wife retires from her job?
If so then go hug a leftist today, if she'll let you.
The tradition of American politics has been to pull ideas from the fringe into the mainstream parties, if they have merit. The mainstream parties are not supposed to embody only fringe views.Comment

You note also that also legally Social Security is Old Age Insurance (the tax is called the Federal Insurance Contribution Act -- FICA) liberals will equate people who have bought and paid for insurance with freeloaders who suck on the government tit.Comment

You know anyone who can't get two nickles together without spending one of them? The country is full of such people and has been for a long time. SS mandated contributions because if it was voluntary, we would have major problems with indigent poor who opted out because they wanted to spend the money now. As for how to invest the money, do people really want the Federal Government being a major investor in the equities markets? It's not like the people who set the program up didn't put any thought into it.Last edited by togor; 04-11-2020, 12:47.Comment
