If we've learned anything from Tornado forecasting over the years, it's that people will pay attention to good local data. That says that the best way to keep things moving going forward is to have intensive testing around the people who are sick. Pretty much the model South Korea is using.

But that doesn't mean it's not a fact we've passed the incredible death toll in Italy ....
We have also passed the "incredible" death toll in Italy for:

        Auto Accidents
        Heart attacks
        lung cancer
        rattlesnake bites
        drownings
        lightening strikes
        tornados
        pit bull attacks
        flu
        landslides
        avalanches
        dementia
        alcoholism
        heroin usage
        robberies
        murders

Name one incredible kind of dying in Italy that exceeds that of the U.S....?

        Then explain why...

Maybe. It's Red's parade, I guess he can decide.

The United States, as has been mentioned, is five times the population of Italy. a more fair comparison would be the United States to Western Europe and the UK which approximately equals the U.S. in population, A few days ago the U.S. had about 18,000 deaths compared to about 60,000 in Western Europe. That's more apples to apples.

The disease tends to like hot spots like Milan in Italy and the New York metro area. Not all areas of Italy or the United States, including major metropolitan areas are affected equally. The New York metro area has about 50% of all US deaths at over 10,000. The LA metro area has about 750. Why, I have no idea. Fortunately the death count seems to be dropping in Europe which hopefully will start here soon too. I am cautiously optomistic since new hospitalizations in New York have dropped the past few days.
