    Splain to me,

Air line traffic is down [from reports] in some areas of the ZOI 95% and other forms down as well. IF the airlines go down exactly will this impact the U.S.? From my observation it appears to me that most travel is done for convenience, not out of necessity. Business can now and is being done by teleconference instead of actual face to face. Train travel is still a viable option as well as vehicle. Just curious as to what can/will happen to the airline industry.

The airports and aircraft and control infrastructure all exist. Some corporations may go under but new ones will arise. People will fly.

But remember, each train ticket is a net loss to the taxpayer.

What about all the tickets sold in advance? Usually no refund, pocket money for the airlines. Airlines are out for big profits anyway.
I would rather support the railroad than the rest of the world.

A few people have to travel because of their jobs. If push came to shove they could always use a private carrier though. The rest? Yeah, people don't need to be moving around as much as they do. With reduced flights, cruises and travel the economic income would be reduced as well but a lot of these businesses are owned by foreign investors.

It's been brought up here before about how traveling by air use to be a big deal. People would dress up, they were treated like royalty by the airlines and the seats were spaced where you had a little elbow room. Now it is like riding an overcrowded smelly bus.

Perhaps the "new world" we will be going into (post virus) will open opportunities like luxury bus coaches and trains (no not Amtrak). Travel would revert back to a planned event rather than a daily routine.

People I've spoken to over the years all say "I have to be on the road all the time", "I have to go here--I have to go there". Ironically though when the price of gasoline takes an upward price hike the traffic diminishes greatly till people get use to the new price, then it slowly starts to increase back. Additional price hikes all result in the same temporary traffic reductions.

So, if the airline industry becomes limited people will suddenly realize they didn't need to travel so much any way. They will adjust. They'll get over it.

Business travel is the backbone of aviation. "A few people"? Perhaps in some companies the road warriors are a small fraction, and possibly going forward video will displace air travel.

Also growth in aviation is primarily in Asia these days. Would be a shame if US manufacturers missed out on that.

Not to mention cargo. It's not just your dirty undies in the luggage under your feet.

I believe Sam was referring to airline passengers.

I don't see air cargo by carriers such as FedEx and UPS being affected much by this. Their work goes on and they may be busier now than before with so many shut-ins ordering stuff they would normally go out and buy.

I was referring to the flying public, not cargo as this will go on as usual.

You can start your own thread if you'd like to discuss your mutual ignorance on the subject of air cargo.

Don't concern yourself, RKT is just ticked that his boyfriend stood him up last night. Every time this happens RKT goes on a rampage of sorts and flames others for his short comings.
