The way it REALLY is in most of the country.

Look at the following town by town Chink Flu infection chart for my county--Essex Co., just under 2000 sq. m., pop. 37,300. The chart is part of an on-line community newsletter that I can't separate out by itself, so just scroll down the page. Total cases 46, 10 of whom are from a prison for NYC inmates. For THIS, total panic, hysteria, shutdown, signs on every store requiring masks "by order of State Dictator, Cuomo."

Sorry, have to take my word for it, link I wanted to post won't work.

Where I live, absolutely NOT! But we are forced by our State Dictator & all the local fear-mongers to live as if there was.

By the way, the chart (compiled by county health dept) I can't post shows that of the 46 total cases, 29 have recovered, 9 are home quarantined, ZERO deaths & hospitalizations! Yet, as I said, for THIS total panic & total shutdown, routine medical care impossible, etc.; & it's happening all over the country! Truly fantastic!

Our county has had 3, one dead the other two recovered. Our personal life has little changed can't say the same about the general well being.

Your other option was to be closed now due to high rates of sickness among the locals, and death, especially among the elderly, which upstate NY has in copious supply, as a result of staying open earlier, thereby getting swamped by metro NY residents fleeing the virus, bringing infection and emptying local food store shelves in their path like so many locusts.

Or perhaps a magical 3rd option where people downstate obediently shelter/die in place while upstate goes about it's business? Doubtful.

Bitch away but no mistake your hated Governor Cuomo gave you your best option.

Containing the spread of incurable infectious diseases by quarantine has been the accepted method since the beginning of time. It's the way China kept the disease from spreading like a tidal wave all over their country--and it WORKED! How can forcing an unlimited no. of people to loose their jobs & businesses, spend hours standing in bread lines, risk loosing their homes, etc., be a lesser sacrifice than making a limited no. of people stay put where they chose to live? But you're right, it would be "magical" to expect the State Dictator to alienate his main power base, NYC; pure political expediency, not medical science, was the determining factor.

What will be magical is if NYC and other Democratically controlled areas get the $ from Congress that they are now demanding. Bankruptcy is possibly the only avenue open to them and not very palatable for the nation as well. Unfortunately as I recently personally observed, some meds are horrible in taste magnificent in what they cure.

That wouldn't be true if your state was subject to the tyranny of a megalomaniac Dictator, using panic as a means of self-aggrandizement. Unlimited free press coverage every day, never less than an hour's worth of commercial-free TV coverage every day for press briefings identical to that of the previous day, not to mention fawning interviews for every TV news program.

What do you want? Even you admit NYC got hammered.

Meanwhile upstate, people are complaining about their loss of freedom--to earn a living, or to spend one's wages in a manner that suits them, including freedom of travel.

The options then were lock everything down in the state, thereby reducing the incentive for NYC residents to flee, or leave upstate wide open and try to man roadblocks and create some kind of Cluster F*ck on the highways. Even if that had been done, some people would be protesting the illegal road blocks. Assuming there were enough LEOs to man them 24/7.

And if that didn't work? If some infected got over the northern border and had to chill out in Lake Placid because the roads to NYC are closed, what then?

There's no easy way around this one. Consequently any outcome is going to be criticized.

We have had a total of 3 no death's,most of the county is working.City just reported at this time no real drop in income tax.Only large city's in Ohio have been hit some what hard. They need to look at the age of the infected and locations. One of our local area counties with a small population has large numbers, most are in retirement centers. One staff member worked in two different centers and was the person who they think caused the outbreak.I had the chance to work in a large retirement center for a coupe of years and many staff will work full time at one an part time at a different location. If you every work or visit a retirement center you will find out how fast any kind of bug will move through those centers. In those years I had several bad Viral infections and some other bugs that the doctors could not figure out.Never was that sick in my life.
