    Oh Canada.

Well the Prime Minister of Canada has now started the outlawing of all assault weapons in Canada. He is sponsoring legislation to ban them all and the list is long they say. Blaming it all on semi-auto firearms and it seems this will include pistols too. No buy back mentioned yet.

So if the First Nations have sovereignty on their lands, does the proposed ban include them or only if they wander out onto Crown jurisdiction?

There is a guardian angel who watches over the United States. We've made two attempts to take over Canada (during the Revolution and the War of 1812) and failed both times. Can you imagine how many MORE left wing politicians we'd have if we had incorporated Canada?

On the other hand, Canadians would have rights they are now denied. Anyway, all the left wing politicians in Canada would be a drop in the bucket compared to those already here.

I thought the Nova Scotia shooter did NOT use an "assault weapon"!

At this point things are still unclear. One report said that the ban would include 9 specific firearms and 1,500 variants (a highly unlikely number based on 9 firearms so it is probably a lot more than 9 firearms). Indications are that all variants of the AR 15 and the M 14 are to be banned but that is not a surprise. That same report was that current owners would be grandfathered and that the original intent to spend $250M in a buyback was now to be changed to owners having the option of selling the firearm to the government. Other reports say different things including a 2 year time period. We will probably not know the reality for another day or two

Hopefully Canada will have another election before it goes completely to s**t like SF, LA, WA state, IL, NYC and all other liberal/socialist ruined places.

Canada already has gun control measures that don't do anything but restrict the law abiding citizens. Their government is showing it's true colors like the democrats would like to do here.

We don't need any more drops in THAT bucket!

The ban has just been announced effective immediately. You can own the firearms but you can't use them, sell them or transport them except if you are exporting them. There is a two year amnesty to dispose of them but then apparently you can request some sort of (unclear) grandfathering. The full list of prohibited weapons is posted on the Canada Gazette, the official government publication venue for new legislation and regulation but the website is not functioning. I expect that it is being overloaded by people seeking access. According to news sources, the ban includes AR 15, M14, Ruger Mini 14, Beretta Storm, etc. Surprisingly they have not touched handguns.

Under normal circumstances I would guess that there would be a good chance of a change of government before the end of the two year amnesty but with the COVID situation all that has changed. The Liberal government has been handing out billions of dollars to almost everyone, every day and have effectively bought the next election.

That's how liberals do it -- once they get in power, they make you pay for your own chains.

Scanned the list. Looks like WW2 autoloaders still ok?

That's how life is. One jerk can ruin it for many others. That's why it's a good idea to keep the jerks in line before they make trouble.

That's the rub, no doubt about it.

So far every country has decided it's easier to get rid of the "bad" guns than to figure out who the jerks are. But every mass shooting increases the constituency of people who want to see some kind of change.

Mass killers are always ugly men so shoot all ugly men so they don't become killers. Simple.

                              Mark,

isn't there a subset of firearms that the owners are allowed to keep in Canada, but have to be turn in as the owners pass?

as in they are only grandfathered for the current owner, no sales, transfers to relatives or estates, etc,
