    A Nurse's perspective

"Outside of work, even as a nurse, I feel more comfortable in my clinical setting right now than when I'm out in public.

A lot of people ask me if I am afraid to go to work every day, where I come into contact with COVID-19 regularly. I'm not—I'm much more in control of my surroundings when I am at work. It’s when I am food shopping or out trying to get some fresh air and I see hoards of people getting together or not following social distancing at the stores when I feel uncomfortable. I am not afraid to come to work. It’s when I am not at work that I don’t feel safe."

To some extent it's like riding a bicycle on a winding road with no shoulder. Most people will be courteous -- but it only takes one fool to wipe you out.

Why? She no doubt has a med grade respirator, gloves, & can avoid crowds by walking away, like I do. So how can those other people harm her? Are they pulling off her mask, trying to hug her, or what?

Don't tell me about bicycle riders on winding roads with no shoulders! It's the bicycle rider on the winding road (paid for by motorists, not bicycle riders) who's the fool, or rather FAH, & who endangers ME when a driver coming the other way pulls into MY lane to avoid the FAH in his lane!

Saving lives and reducing outbreak severity are good business too.

We can stay home yet go to stores to buy food if the store workers and suppliers aren't all sick.

We can send kids to school if the teachers aren't getting sick. Substitutes will be impossible to find if regular teachers are down & out with the virus.

Now on the back half of this, halfway to herd immunity, maybe a different story. But that's a ways off.

Hmmm . . . how is it possible to walk away from crowds inside a grocery store, on public transportation and so on.

Roads are for PEOPLE. People who ride bicycles also pay for roads -- they have cars, too, you know.

And why should a driver have to pull into your lane -- wouldn't that make HIM the fool? Doesn't he know there's a pedal at his left foot that will bring his car down to a safe speed, so he doesn't have to endanger other human beings?

I've been walking away from crowds in grocery stores for decades. It's easy, assuming you have brains enough to avoid going at peak hours. Most big stores open at 7 am, stay open to 9 or 10 pm. If you're fool enough to patronize stores like Walmart, you deserve what you get.

No, roads are not for PEOPLE! They are for DRIVERS! I have to pay registration & ins. for every vehicle I own (four) though I can only drive one at a time, & am NOT allowed to drive my ATV or snowmobile on the road even though I'm required to have it registered & insured! Want to ride a bicycle, find a safe place to do it, which does not force others to make way for you, & which does NOT include "winding roads with no shoulder."

Unfortunately, the law does not agree with you. If you don't like the law, take it up with your state legislature.

CH is wrapped way too tight. Sort of person who shouldn't be allowed within 100 miles of a loaded firearm
