Employment is a lagging indicator -- the stock market shows increasing investor confidence and predicts an upturn in employment.Comment

Predicts layoffs in short sighted attempts to make a 3rd quarter profit. That's why the small business loans carried a provision to keep people employed, or risk paying it back.
The market is NOT the economy, though there are certainly overlapping circles."The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. UllmanComment

Many years ago, I was in the Infantry Officer's Advanced Course. A lot of us were saving and investing what we could -- and I discovered that people who DON'T save and invest HATE those who do. One guy said to me, "Sure, you'll be a millionaire when you retire. But by that time a candy bar will cost a million. What will you do then?"
I said, "I'll eat my candy bar and watch you starve."
I wonder where that guy is now?
The stock market is a place where people of modest means can use the Time Value of Money to ensure a comfortable old age. and even pass on a little to their children and grandchildren. If we all did that, in a few generations there would be virtually no poverty in this country and most of our problems would be solved.Comment

You really believe that? Talk about someone who has no clue how the world really is.The stock market is a place where people of modest means can use the Time Value of Money to ensure a comfortable old age. and even pass on a little to their children and grandchildren. If we all did that, in a few generations there would be virtually no poverty in this country and most of our problems would be solved.
How is it that some people are poor?
