Most of the shows still being shown on PBS date from the '80s & '90s, & the unremitting intensity of the fake laughter exceeds anything I've heard on US shows, though the last time I watched such a US show was when Archie Bunker was still around. Only reason I know anything about the current Brit shows (which I'd sooner take a whipping than watch) is because of the ads that my two local PBS stations run all the time, because this tripe is the cheapest programming they can buy.

our local station was running older UK shows on Fri or Sat evenings, may still be,
I watch a lot of UK TV shows, they are usually much much better than anything hollywood puts out,
most on Netflix or Amazon prime,
try, if you wanna,
Luther
Bodyguard
MI-5 (called Spooks in the UK, obviously not PC enough for here)
Life on Mars
Ashes to Ashes
Doc Martin
Broadchurch
River
Wallander (I have only watched the UK version, not the original)
for US made in Euro, ,try Lillyhammer (delightfully funny)Comment

I watched & liked Foyle's War, but the subject was brainless & witless British comedies ROARING with fake laughter, & best suited for entertaining Alzheimer's patients in a nursing home; they make the Pawn Stars guys seem like high caliber intellectuals. And, despite the stupid scripts written for them, & their dumb-ass gags, I usually learn something of lasting interest about the items being pawned anytime I watch that show.Comment
