The Dem's strategy running Biden is not to win the WH but to ensure flipping the Senate. Nadler has introduced articles of Impeachment, again. The rational being that with Trump as the obvious walk away winner in November the voters will want gridlock and a Dem Congress. Impeach Trump then Pence and Princess Nancy becomes President. Sounds stupid but watching her Middle School Mean Girl antics I would not put it past those fools. As one of us posted they'd rather reign in Hell than serve in Heaven and that could be what they'd get.
Oh, the Speaker of the House doesn't need to be a member of the House if I understand correctly.

The democrats are not concerned about Biden as president, instead, it's like you said , to gain control of Congress so that they can get rid of Trump and Pence thus putting Pelosi in power. During the last impeachment the dems said they had dirt about Pence. When elected for a second term, Trump will face extreme pressure from the corrupt dems preventing what needs to be done by Trump. Thru Pelosi Hillary and O'Bama will be in absolute control.

Defacto or sworn, the 'Rats intend to neuter Trump and force in all of their communist crap. Whether they are stupid enough to put in either of their Middle School princesses remains to be seen. In one of those ironies of real life, the 'Rats impeach Trump, Nan becomes Veep and some feminist decides to make 'herstory' by elevating her to WH. They are that 'dupped.

Remember it takes a 2/3 majority to convict in the Senate. The only way that happens is if the evidence is pretty compelling, since surviving Senate Republicans would circle the wagons and hunker down. And Trump, unlike previous office holders, has shown that he takes a scorched earth view to rules of evidence. So if it managed to get out, it will be in spite of Trump, Pence and the AG, and probably the Federal Courts (who have been strategically filled with loyalist hacks).

All of which is to say, if your scenario were to come to pass, it would be richly deserved. On the other side, the doomsday scenarios are that Trump declares states of emergencies in the weeks before the election, calling out the national guard into cities in critical swing states (for Covid or other reasons) to interfere with balloting. Or ordering his his top spooks (again loyalist hacks now) to leave the keys in the locks for the Russians to hack the elections whereever they are able.

I'm hoping none of the worst scenarios on either side come to pass, because then we all lose.
