Great if you're not taxed to death and have to give it up. The only account politicians can come up with for the purpose of outrageous property tax is to support the police and fire dept. You never know when that catfish pond is going to catch fire or a squirrel needs to be arrested for stealing acorns.

Property tax in Arkansas is set by the Quorum Court (the governing body of the county.) Many a JP (Quorum Court member) has been voted out of office for attempting to raise taxes.

Lack of cellular service now makes sense.

After my bout with cancer and chemo I had to realize that with that and ageing I cannot do what I want to do. Being in sunlight for any length of time is out, more protective covering is in. With neuropathy of the feet walking a great deal is sometimes painful so hunting is now mostly still and waiting. My greenhouse has been my sanity saving feature in these dire times. My plants are doing better then they would have done outside in the garden and easier for me to tend. Many of my containers are self watering, I just have to keep the revivor full. No weeding, pests are not a problem to have to tend with. I can grow sub tropical plants with little difficulty and the only issue is all the gallons of water that I take out. I am using about 20-25 gallons of water per day to water the plants.
What is ahead? This is the $64.00 question that all of us have to face. I can only look at the past and remember other trying times in the 1960's that our nation faced and went thru. Other then voting I have no control over what is going on politically. I have my opinion which I am now keeping to myself as only I will know if I am right or wrong. If the Republic doesn't survive and we become another Balkan the world will survive and so will some Americans. Many that I tended won't and other's will become more predatory then they currently are, that I am sure of. Those of us on this board who live rural will have it easier then those who live in cities. Those in apartments are going to have the worst time of all for survival. Locally Ohio University has/is laying off union workers and doing non-renewal of contracts of teaching staff. Some have never done anything in their lives but teach and the real world will be a certain eye opener.
As for me the future is what I make of it and what God gives me to have and to hold. Worry? What good will it do and only cloud my thoughts to a great extent. I am going to follow Yogi Berrias [sp] advice.

Did you see the economic news today -- and note the stock market's reaction? We're bouncing right back to where we were before COVID-19.

No, the economy has not. The market is not the economy.

Boy, this is bad news for Biden and his "followers?" with the stock market is almost back to where it is. Locally jobs are all over the place, not enough workers. I still feel that most people will vote their pocket book and put aside the "racist" part of American history. More Blacks/Latino's are working since the last 50 years, less poverty and not from public assistance.
The only ones who are aghast are those who want to install Biden and the return to the government plantation with bought votes. Polls say that Biden is surging and Trump will loose. Didn't we hear this time 4 years ago that Hillary would win in a landslide and "give" peace with prosperity in our time? CNBC is wetting themselves saying this trying to get other's to believe the same foolishness. Some here are eating of this fantasy meal and are starving the more they intake.

In the 30 years I've lived in my house I've paid over $90,000 in property taxes.
It appears the Government owns my house and I just pay them rent.

I have 180 acres in Arkansas, and a pretty nice house. My brother has a house on a lot in Elgin, Texas. If I want to make him cry, I tell him what my property taxes are,

When I turned 65 I was eligible to apply for the Homestead Exemption act due to reduced income and age. The exemption is only good on your one home, not vacation property. As such my taxes went down 90% which helps to further our spending dollars.

My taxes are frozen, due to my age -- they cannot go up.

They will make it up when someone inherits or buys your property some day.

If there was some reason for the tax it would be different.

Most of our property taxes in Arkansas go to support the schools -- such as they are.

I don't begrudge paying to educate someone else's child -- but it torques my jaws when I pay and they DON'T get an education.
