    Police Unions and Misconduct

As long as we're looking at egghead papers, these guys studied data from Florida. When Sheriff's Deputies get collective bargaining rights, misconduct goes up.

    https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....act_id=3095217

It confirms what we kinda sense, that unions act like misconduct insurance.

you have never dealt with a union or union contract , right ?

job one in a union is to get folks to join, easy in a closed state, but in a right to work state, they gotta convince folks,

job 2 is to get the money and pay for the boss, and his favorites salary, company car, and free this and that, (gas, insurance, work clothes etc)

job 3 is to try to get all that redone in the next contract negotiation,

job 4 is to back the paying members, if it benefits the union and is iron clad in defense,

now in a Right to Work state, the smart folks don't join the union, cause they get the same benefits w/o paying the dues,

the not so smart, and the fukkups pay, knowing that the union will back them 100%,,, as long as they can't get caught breaking the law (or the contract) and keep paying dues, and don't piss off the shop stewards

so basically, unions help the lowest common denominator,

funny thing is the shop stewards were usually the least productive person in the building, and they promoted that work ethic,

Lyman I grew up in a union town. I know the score, always have. But there are different kinds of unions too. Industrial, public sector, cops (their own special public sector case since they bust strikes and cross picket lines), and building trades. Unions are not all bad, even if I never wanted to join one. Some employers are as bad as unions in a sense, and like the man said,

those organizations that get a union probably deserve one.

And there are the interesting cases, like Boeing. The union plant in Washington has better quality than the non-union plant in Carolina.
