It was an online course with grade dependent on final exam. It was accounting not philosophy - numbers correct or not. Because the course was online, there was no way to delineate race of students.

'Thanks for your suggestion in your email below that I give black students special treatment, given the tragedy in Minnesota...Do you know the names of the classmates that are black? How can I identify them since we've been having online classes only?

Are there any students that may be of mixed parentage, such as half black-half Asian? What do you suggest I do with respect to them? A full concession or just half?

One of the things a professor is supposed to know is: don't make messes that your bosses will have to clean up. Three weeks without pay won't hurt him any.

You say he wrote a letter back to the student you thought poorly written..well his response was just a reply to a student who wrote him, nothing official...just a private conversation...Lol

If blacks "need" this to survive what does it say in general about blacks? Since this "upsets" them does it now show their inferiority? In college I was taught by a guy from Kenya who was here to do is PhD and part of this was teaching. In a private conversation he stated he did not understand black Americans calling themselves African as they are not. An American black in his country is called an American. He also did not understand why the blacks are so proud of their heritage as their ancestors were captured and sold. Black Warriors would never allow themselves to be captured, only the weak would submit to having this done to them.

Contempt & derision is what such a patenting race-pandering request richly DESERVED! And if there were any merit to the request, why wouldn't the question of "mixed parentage" (i.e., mongrelism) be relevant? What may compensate for his monetary loss is a gain in his awareness of the corrosive effects on learning of PC.

I had a neighbor that was first gen American from Africa, (cannot remember what country, been a long while ago)

he's a pediatric nurse, his wife is a infant ICU nurse,
very well spoken intelligent guy,

over a few neighborhood get togethers, and a few ciders (he found out when he got here he was Celiac,, go figure) and my Homemade GF Coconut cake, he started talking about the nurses, doctors, and patients he worked with,


he was not very complimentary of the 'african americans' (his quotes) he had met,

they moved to Alabama, got moved up the chain in the hospital system to higher paying jobs,

his wife, if it matters was US born, but IIRC of South African descent, and about as pale white as one could get

And Ray is incorrect to point out that it was a private conversation. It was official business of the University. His email was flippant and blowback was to be expected. Tenure is like a lifetime union job in some cases.

To the merits of the request--

For the class to mean something, the work has to be done. It shouldn't be excused. That said it's electronic, so for those who asked for a break, that break could have come in extra time to get their "head straight". Since it's online anyways, logistically possible. A bit of a hassle for the instructor perhaps, but less hassle perhaps than what he's going through now. Had he run it up his chain of command, they would have put him in a position to avoid all of this.

Yes, and slavery in West Africa, to the extent it was practiced, was more benign than the industrial scale system in the Americas, especially in the 1800s.

And the line of argument that CH and Boggs are taking says nothing about those born into slavery in the Americas. Frankly it's because of rationalizations like these that folks are still in the streets. In other words the BLM protests are your fault (using your own logic whereby upstream facilitators take the blame).
