    The new reality?

Do whites now distrust all blacks that we encounter as a possible adversary? Is being labeled a racist for whites a cause to stay away and decline to interact with blacks because of this fear? Does a white cop do less in encountering a black criminal for fear of being prosecuted? Would a white patron want a black waiter out of fear of something being put into the food? Does this rational/irrational fear further segregate our society? Is this new fear the white's new norm? I am afraid it is and this is the new reality.

I've worked retail for many years,

worked with, and sold to , just about every color in the crayon box,

the stuff you mentioned, has been a fear on both sides for years and years, and may never go away,

there is a subset of folks on both sides that have no use for the other,
it is the way they were brought up,
some escape it , some do not,

and to say it is a white problem, or black problem is wrong,
it is both, and both sides have politicians and religious figures that do nothing but promote it,

I'm of the age/gender/race where suspicious looks from minorities are common,

especially in the last 3 years.

If it's a cashier, a friendly demeanor seems appropriate, whether it leads to banter or not.

If it's another motorist, or passing someone on the street, a quick nod is all that the situation requires.

People fear the unknown so make it less unknown.

        sad place you live in,

I just speak to everyone, regardless of who or what they are,

99% are polite and speak back, and **gasp** may even engage in conversation,

even when I worked in a economically challenged area

if you want culture change to solve all the issues in the world, esp those you have been discussing lately, then you need to start somewhere,

maybe the issues are not Southerners, et al, at all??

you northerners need to get your act together ,

Well as has been observed, the northern attitude is: they don't belong here. Clearly, I'm not here to sugar coat northern racism, or apologize for it. I do take a stand against it (in case you haven't noticed).

you rarely complain about the north, you tend to save that for the South

ANYBODY, black or white, I suspect is a supporter of my blood enemies, the Dems, is my adversary. The grief they will inflict on us if they get the opportunity is NO JOKE.
