FIRST they came for Gen. Lee...

And other beloved symbols of white heroism & heritage; now...

Statues connected to slavery and colonialism are targeted as George Floyd protests continue.

Oh please. Lee himself saw no need for Confederate monuments. All you're really doing is memorializing Jim Crow. At least be honest about it.

The mobs that are trying to erase history are just as stupid and ignorant as the savages that destroyed the Buddhas of Bamiyan. For example, buddies of togor attacked a memorial for black soldiers that fought for the Union in the Civil War. It is a form of cultural genocide going on right before our eyes and he loves it.

Get it right. Lee opposed all monuments, not just Confederate.

In the sick mind of todays anarchists, great things created by (or for) great men that just happened to be born into a culture that was different, should be destroyed. Things like the Constitution, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and gathering together are history and must also be destroyed and replaced by symbols of today's greatness. George Floyd, Al Sharpton, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Bradley Manning come to mind. Monuments to them would be more representative of greatness than theWashington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Iwo Jima monuments combined.

Here's one that's safe; come within 50 yds of this monstrosity carrying a hammer or spray can & you'll be shot on sight! Where, by the way, are local cops while this vandalism of public monuments is being carried out?

Everyone is familiar with R. E. Lee quotes on the subject.

White supremacists, neo-Nazis and others have protested the removal of Confederate monuments. But the Confederate general Robert E. Lee himself never wanted such monuments built.

                As for union monuments:

Is it fair to say that everyone here is glad that the Union was restored? Even at the price of ending slavery? If so, then these memorials should not be as controversial. But if someone insists on moral equivalence between the two sides, then again, just come out and say it.

Destroying national traditional statues mostly happens when non Democratic and repressive regimes take over a country..

I think they could put them in museums.

                    OR

Leave them up but explain that they were a monument to Jim Crow policies, and what that meant.

It is part of the discussion. Maybe not right now, but it has been out there. The trouble is.....the Jim Crow people resist any additional "context".

I'll say it, hell yes! Southern states fought to repel a foreign invader, not to impose their system & rule on any other state. What system of morality forbids self-defense?

That's a LIE as monstrous as it is shallow! PRIDE in the heroism & sacrifice of beloved ancestors remembered as if they'd died yesterday erected those monuments, not something as abstract as a defense of segregation. At the time, segregation NEEDED no defense, South or North!
