Minneapolis Police Department Abolished by City Council

Minneapolis City Council unanimously votes to ABOLISH its police department and replace it with a community-led public safety system - while NYC leaders push plan to cut $1 BILLION from the NYPD budget.

It's a done deal...The Minneapolis City Council on Friday unanimously passed a resolution to replace the police department
The council will pursue a community-led public safety system as a replacement.

Only time will tell how it works out..I hope having no regular police force doesn't increase crime there...Any one what to take bets on it..

Togor, going to move back now, your dream came true..Lol

wonder if they have clauses in the contract to break w/ the union, or if they will have to pay out to the officers/staff that is under contract until the contract ends?

and wonder if the county(s) have been contacted yet to police the areas for the city

May not be any saving in that as I mentioned before, countries generally pay their deputies more in salaries and benefits then do municipalities..

I still plan to rob all the banks in Minneapolis -- this is too great an opportunity to miss!

I am going to report your intentions to the community-led public safety committee there so they can keep an eye on you...

They will no doubt publicly ridicule me and cover me with shame.

They all should hit the unemployment office at once.

Should evolve into a fantastic place to establish a new business, start a career, and raise a family.

Answer me this -- what kind of numb nuts would think a vigilante committee would be better than a trained and professional police force?

Sounds like they're looking at the Camden, NJ example.

What if they pull it off? They're not all dumb in Minnesota.

I don't know what they're looking at and I don't think they do yet either. When a woman asks a city council woman who she is supposed to call in an emergency and is told "that question comes from a place of privilege" I wouldn't count on anything.

While Camden has improved and the 2013 reforms have certainly helped, It's still one of the most violent, crime ridden cities in the United States. I have that on first hand authority as well as the crime stats.
