That was pretend and I'll bet it was still a little scary.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

You bet it is. Have you ever done the Tueller Drill?

A class is divided into teams of 3. The attacker has a rubber knife, the defender has a gun (usually an airsoft) and the recorder has a clipboard and stopwatch.

Attacker and defender stand 21 feet apart. At the attacker's option, he charges. The defender tries to shoot him. The recorder starts the stopwatch when he sees the attacker move and stops it when the attacker reaches the defender. Then he records the time, the results, and other data -- height, weight, age, sex and so on of the participants. Then they rotate positions.

Results: The attack takes place in 1.5 seconds, +/- 0.1 seconds. The attacker is almost always successful. Height, weight, age, sex and so on don't make any difference.

What the Tueller Drill teaches is if there is a man within 21 feet of you with a knife and he wants to kill you, he WILL kill you, and you can't stop him.

By this distorted logic, a man with a knife is deadlier inside a 21 foot radius than a man with a gun. Consequently, LEOs should for maximum personal safety holster their useless sidearms and use knife tactics in close engagements. Omission of knife technique is a major failing in LEO training.

Vern; Yrs. ago I saw a police training film about different attack senerio's and that was one of them. It takes longer for the cop to take his gun out of holster than the attacker to get to him. That is why a lot of them have hand on gun or gun in hand when walking up to a suspect. togor/ragy, think about it. it's called 'element of surprise' by some.

                not distorted,

there are plenty of Utube Vids out there of that exact drill,

it's about momentum and reaction times,

the old saying about bringing a knife to a gun fight is true if the knife guy just stands there , ,

I guess it depends on the dept re the self defense training and techniques,

the few cops I have spoken to tell me the training is to neutralize the threat, and clean up the mess afterwards

I wish you guys would quit posting quotes from these guys. Look how he uses the word "logic" as if reality was just an idea, and could be changed by thinking about it differently.
