My view is,

Improved race relations benefit the country as a whole. Everyone brings a point of view to the table, worthy of respect. We're better off with leaders who can lead, unite, not opportunistically play one faction off against another.

Bubba Wallace, the only black driver in NASCAR, recently came out against the ANV emblem, long a fixture in stock car racing. NASCAR concurs, and set a policy whereby that symbol is no longer welcome. Well this week, at Talladega, which is in Alabama, Bubba found a noose in his garage stall, inside a restricted area.

CH and GS will insist that this isn't an old-school attempt at intimidation, conjuring up images of the ol' Ceder Tree as a warning that some should just stay silent about certain things.

Going full-Orwell now. Acceptable racist speech is like a puddle drying in the scorching sun. There is a desperate quest to innovate, to find new ways to hate things verbally while staying ahead of the codebreakers, all while praying for rain.

I don't follow NASCAR. Although I did see on Fox some 15-second promos for their coverage of Talledaga--all crashes, big ones. If that's the draw, then it's a peculiar sport indeed.
