    Police poll taken

10,000 active police were asked in a poll last week about their profession. 80% said they were not happy with current events aimed at reducing police forces. Also said they would not recommend being a police officer to anyone. Thousands of eligible police are retirering. They felt that their cities were not behind them and would not stand up for them.

If you don't have a concealed carry license, GET one. If you have one and don't carry ALL the time, START!

+1, use to carry sporadically but now don’t leave the house without protection. Also weapon in car...

Looks like the morale problem among LEOs predates 2020. This is last summer. People doing their job like this clearly have attitude/morale problems, and thank goodness for cell phone videos and cool-headed civilians on the site to keep things from spinning out of control.

        Added:

        And remember Jared Lakey?

Some justice for his family, one year later.

Two police officers from Wilson, a small town about 20 miles west of Ardmore, were charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday in connection with an in-custody death where they allegedly used a stun gun against a man more than 50 times.

If morale is low because of a perceived lack of community support, it may be because the community is preoccupied with a backlog of figuring out the good cops from the bad. LEOs themselves could help speed that process instead of hiding behind the blue wall. The sooner the bad ones are out of law enforcement, the better for everyone.

I knew you would do that, claim I hate the police because I challenge them to take on the job of cleaning up their own house. You agree with me that the bad cops need to go. Well then, who better to cull them than the people who see them on the job every day?

The people with the "COPS ARE THERE TO SMASH" mindset are the ones who really have it in for the police, because that attitude won't hold up for the long haul.

Implicitly you are excusing cops for going fricking ballistic on the population because it is a dangerous job. That's what your posting of those stats says. That makes you part of the problem.

No but you do seem to have a problem with cops..you seem always bring up of bad things associated with cops. It would make a person to wonder, that maybe you had some negative contacts with the police! As it is my experience that people that really hate the cops usually have had some...

You and I agree that the fraction of bad cops is small. Therefore, small job to get them out of uniform, right? What's the holdup?

You talk a good game but when push comes to shove you're behind the blue wall as much as the most die hard union president.

This thread starts with uniformed morale being low. Well those stories I linked exist whether I post them or not, and I argue that incidents like that are a huge factor in that low morale. Cops need to change. Ubiquitous cell phones mean the old practice if making problems disappear via the police report doesn't work anymore.

Again, in my career, you're getting better, or worse. Up to you. Same for the cops. So spare me the sob stories about how no one likes them.

Mean while, cops are retiring by the hundreds! And, no one to replace them! It is happening in my small town right now. We lost two 'good' cops because they were fed up with the lack of leadership support. They had been reduced to basically 'walk the beat' cops. One was a K-9 handler.
