So would you accept the terminology of an org that calls a hat or cap a "cover"?
do you argue with yourself in the mirror?

In my youth Turkey was referred to as "Asia Minor".
The Anglican Church and Episcopal Church USA have been drifting left in recent years, embracing the LGBTQ agenda-and losing membership steadily, whole congregations have seceded and formed the Anglican Church of North America.
Racism? I recall a news story where a number of Episcopal churches seceded-and put themselves under the authority of an African bishop.

They have also joined the Catholic Church -- whole parishes and dioceses -- to the extent the Catholic Church has formed an Anglican Rite, where they still have Mass using the Book of Common Prayer.

Note that since Jesus lived in what we now call the Middle East, he was probably dark complexioned and probably looked somewhat like a modern Arab. I have an odd book called "Ancient Faces" which has photos of grave portraits from Roman Egypt. Most of the portraits are from about 70 AD m- 125 AD and while a lot of them look Italian, some have fairly dark complexions and dark curly hair.

Which shows the fallacy of dividing humans by "race." Scientifically, "race" means "species." The key to identifying a species is interfertility -- all dogs, no matter how strange some of them look, are the same species because they are interfertile. The same is true for humans.

And then there are those who think Obama is black. He was raised by his white mother, then by his white grandparents under communist teaching in a white culture. Yes, he is black, if you judge him by the color of his skin.

Walking around under that hot Mediterranean sun, no sun blockers like we have today, no straw to make hats, that would probably turn anybody black. And if there was no social stigma to having sun darkened skin...

If it's the Marines, Army, or Air Force, yes. I don't know about the Navy.

No language lacks a word for "hat"; so why did the Army chose a term that could apply to ANY kind of covering? Esp. when service eqpt required countless different kinds of covers that weren't hats or caps. This is the kind of thinking that inspired "FUBAR" & "SNAFU."

It was the Ice Age that did it -- we were all covered up with furs and didn't get enough sunlight on our skin. I remember what Ooglook said, "Boys, I know Black is beautiful, but we GOT to git us some vitamin D."

Re the debate over hat vs. cap vs. "cover", a helmet is neither but when troops are wearing them and they are told "UNCOVER!" It's a good idea to use a term that covers as many things as possible.

                                "UNHELMET!" would sound silly.
