One can see the tragic sequence of misinformation traps that these people fell into (a charitable view), or the high cost of magical thinking over objective science (more accurate probably).

Saddest personal story I have heard, was a JW that had given birth, and needed a couple pints of blood. She refused on religious grounds and needlessly passed away. My convictions as a husband would not be that strong. Just depressing.
