Free speech..remember it! now a thing of the past....

Free speech..a thing of the past?

A letter published earlier this week by Harper's Magazine warned that the free exchange of information and ideas was in jeopardy

More than 150 academics and journalists denounce JK Rowling and Noam Chomsky's letter pleading for free speech because they are 'white, wealthy and endowed with massive platforms'

Hundreds of prominent writers and scholars have signed an open letter 'on justice and open debate'

Letter was criticized on social media by other writers, including journalists
They claimed, 'The Harper's letter signers fail to address systemic silencing of minority voices and some contribute to it'

And another negatvere consequence of free speech..the losing of your job.

Has been a thing of the past on college campuses for years for speech that deviates from left-wing orthodoxy. Those harboring "conservative" sentiments quickly learn to keep their mouths shut, or face massive retaliation unopposed by the college adm.

Rowling for example wants the monetary upside of free speech, but no monetary down side.

That is, she wants people to buy her Harry Potter stuff, but when she opines negatively on trans issues, she doesn't want any blowback--certainly nothing that would dent sales.

The US Supreme Court says money=speech. By the principle of symmetry, therefore speech=money.

      Money is seldom free.

The right has a cancel culture of it's own. The administration certainly suppressed a lot of free speech during the impeachment trial, and what is the story of Trump Inc. besides bankruptcies and non-disclosure agreements?

Or for Pete's sake...why don't you just write a speech. that way you won't find fault with it! Can't answer for everyone else though..
