Bob Kidd lake in Northwest Arkansas is a quandary for the M&M's. There is a park and a lake in NWA called Bob Kidd Lake. The lake and dam cover about 200 acres, with the lake being 70 acres (I fish there often). Bob Kidd was born a slave in 1824 and freed by the Civil War. He managed to buy a 40 acre farm and became very successful in the following years. He lived until 1924, (that's 100 years for sandpecker). The guy was well respected and his lake is a popular place.
Today's ignorant citizens think all slaves were hated and mistreated

After the civil war many former slaves stayed on the farms and continued to work for the same farm owners.
Slave owners paid for slaves, they had no reason to abuse them. Unfortunately they were considered farm equipment but you don't buy a new John Deere tractor to see how quickly you can destroy it---you take care of it.
Black slaves in this country had a roof over their heads and food to eat though they had to work for it. In many cases it was probably more than they had where they came from and certainly more than the white slaves had especially during WW2 where they were purposely worked to death.
