    Concerning stuff

In June the Federal Government had receipts of 242 billion dollars and spent 863 billion dollars. This is obviously unsustainable. If there isn't an uptick in tax revenues sometime in the not too distant future (read that the economy returning to something like pre plague levels) this country could begin to have some really serious economic issues.

Super markets here are asking for correct change because of a coin shortage. The department of the treasury has tacitly admitted that much of this is due to coin hoarding. Why hoard base metal coins? It could be that the folks who are doing it believe the metal in the coins soon will be a lot more valuable in exchange than paper.

This isn't "destiny" but it certainly caught my attention.

At the first of the year, I took a few coffee jars of dimes and quarters to the bank. It was several years of change that I set aside as a more fireproof way of having emergency money on hand. I was surprised that the bank counted over $600 in change. I saved all the nickles because they might retain their value. I didn't think the pennies would amount to much, so I saved them to sort out the older copper pennies. Times will really have to be bad for me to sort them.

If you had piled up silver coins (dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars) in the early '60s, you'd have enough to pay for your retirement.

I was talking to a guy who was complaining about the price of gas. I told him, "I'll sell you all the gas you want at 25 cents a gallon -- if you pay with silver quarters."

knew a guy that kept a can in his car,

every toll both he went thru, he used a dollar bill, and put the change in the can,

his thought was when the car needed any major work, the money in change would cover it,

he had a few large cans in his house full, and eventually counted it,

I cannot remember what the total was, but it was 4 figures,

gotta think there ware better ways to save money,,

Indeed there are -- cans don't pay interest.

I am feeling the coin shortage-the banks are closed so I can't get quarters for the laundry machines.
In years gone by many people-including me-saved all their change, made it a lot easier to feed parking meters, vending machines, pay bus fares, etc. I have a jar full of wheat sheaf cents, several rolls of matching state quarters
I carry a coin bag on me, one time at a parking lot I made change for 7 or 8 people. Another time I was in a bakery, the cashier said she was running out of quarters, I bailed her out.

When I was in the Air Force my mother had an account that she started as an emergency account for me. When she passed, I moved the money to my credit union. When I asked to withdraw the money from her credit union, I was told $50 must remain in the account and if I only had $50 in the account they would charge a service fee until the balance was used. If I left $100 in the account I would receive interest. I left $100 in the account and after 17 years my account is a little over $109.

Are you sure that's not 100.09?

I have cans full of everything except cents simply because I don't like
them rattling around in my pocket.
I have a bunch of silver which I bought in 69.
I wanted to save silver in 64 but needed it for food. Talk about frustrating.

                            As Ray would say....stupid comment.

Savings account interest has been low for decades now.
