Writer makes a good point with the middle paragraph. If freedom is so important, then it ought to speak to worker's rights too. It can't just be freedom for the employer. Or can it?

What is the American "way of life"? I can only speak to my life and my families life. I work longer hours for less money for a company that unceremoniously lays off employees in order to improve stock prices and sends out near daily reminders that we need to be "high performing". My life is pretty much consumed by work and fear of lay-offs. There is no free speech within the confines of corporate culture.
Republicans cry freedom and then fight to ensure employers maintain disproportionate control over the lives and expression of employees.
Is this the American way of life we are supposed to care about and fight to protect?
