Officer who pepper sprays people who refuse to get off road gets charged

Some thing is wrong here when the rest of protesters cleared the road after repeatily told to move off the road, four people remained to honor George Floyd whose police-custody killing sparked Black Lives Matter gatherings across the country.

Now Philadelphia cop, 35, is charged with assault after he was caught on camera pepper spraying demonstrators as they knelt on interstate

Video footage shows Richard Nicoletti, 35, attacking several people who were peacefully protesting on June 1

He pulled off one woman's goggles and pushed a man to spray them in the face on Philadelphia's I-676

The Philadelphia Police Department Internal Affairs Division initiated the investigation, and referred information to the DA on June 24

Mayor Jim Kenney and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw apologized for the use of tear gas on demonstrators that day

Nicoletti is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, official oppression, and one count of possession of an instrument of crime

'The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office will not make excuses for crimes committed by law enforcement,' the DA said on Wednesday

Had he checked with his superior first, he probably wouldn't have been charged. Command needs to do a better job of keeping their front line cops out of situations that will come back to bite them. Now if it can be shown that he violated the rules of engagement he had been given for this operation, then yes, charge him with assault.

I consider this to be a more pro-Police position than Ray's "dammit just let the cops do whatever they want".

The Philadelphia District Attorney is a real POS! He has a long history of excusing criminals and President Trump called him "the worst district attorney in this country."

In case you haven't noticed. His opinion doesn't buy you much.
