    LA schools closed

The super of schools was interviewed yesterday. He said it's too early and dangerous. LA has 1,400 schools and 600,000 students. 80% of the kids live UNDER THE POVERTY LEVEL. And they aren't going back to school? Anyone see the potential for problems here?

    Schools or bars, pick one.

This pandemic exposes another hard truth about this country, that people don't really give a crap about kids.

Simply put you can't run a school if half the teachers are sick. The most qualified subs will be older retired teachers, and they won't come in. One could grant emergency sub licenses to anyone off the street but that doesn't make them a teacher.

I think many districts that feed poor kids will continue to try to make something available. Only in America do we expect our cops to be social workers and mental health experts, and our schools to be how children are fed.

Well, we kind of need bars(not me) but we REALLY need schooling for kids. Other kids will have access to whatever clever idea comes along, but poor non English speaking children are going to be set back or find something else to do when they are not in a classroom. I am not a fan of cops having to be nice to everyone and I bristle at having to feed hundreds of thousands of poor people.

The response to this is the biggest goat screw I've ever seen. The medical community and the educational communities' have had months to study this problem and develop solutions and it appears they have done very little. Children are going to school in other countries. How can they do it and we can't.

How are they going to open schools in major cities that are turning into a constant riot? Would you let your kids/grand kids go into a situation like that? Would we start having more clashes between black and white students????????

Because those other countries were better about controlling spread of the virus. Undisciplined Americans are used to having their cake and eating it too.
