Here comes the Mayflower - again ...

This country is no place for religious refugees and reformists.

As long as the religious refugees and reformist are from a Christian background ... why not? This nation was founded by people of just such backgrounds. Cannot see any reason why there would be a problem with more coming on over. Would be good for the nation as a whole. You know ... Protestant work ethic, etc. Sincerely. bruce.

According to the tax-payer funded African-American Museum in DC, the "Protestant work ethic" is a flagrant example of "white" values forced by America's racist culture on non-whites who just want to do dey own thang, if it feel good, do it, you know, can you dig it Mr Cracker?

The Protestants meant to enjoy the fruits of their own labor, and deny the darker races that same benefit. The South was built by Africans because the Euros died off too quickly from disease. The place was a pesthole of diseases brought to the new world from the old by....you guessed it, Europeans. Money over lives, then and now, with a veneer of religion slathered on to make it all go down easier.

Togor you are so liberal brain washed...The Protestants meant to enjoy the fruits of their own labor because they worked for it and earned it....What's wrong with that? In the US the blacks have been given many many opportunities and many benefits to help them over come their past..Some have used them to advantage to raise their standing and became successful others just keep living off of Uncle...It's not the Protestant's fault now...

"Built by"? It's as logical to say the South was "built by" the horses & mules which plowed the cotton fields & hauled the cotton to market? Without draft animals, the cotton economy would have collapsed, but who would say they "built" it? The South's economy was "built by" the white planters who oversaw production & marketing of their product.

No the place was built by the people who did the work, not those wielding the lash. That's why they imported those people, and resorted to the lash. By your logic NY was built by those in the glittering towers of Manhattan, not those eking produce out of the rock-filled fields upstate. Your ideology is as twisted as it is failed. It gives me satisfaction that you failed to pass it on to the next generation.

Who made it possible for them to DO the work? Owned the land & necessary eqpt. like mules, bought the seed, oversaw the planting, etc., everything necessary to make a farm productive? Without WHITES in control, the South would have been like Rhodesia AFTER whites gave up running the place--not a bread-basket but a basket-case. Slaves made up half the population of ancient Rome, but find a historian who says slaves "built" the Roman Empire. "Living tools" is what Romans called their slaves, & they were the same thing in the cotton fields of the South. Not "ideology," but factual history; YOU are the ideologue, distorting reality to fit your radical ideology.

Ray of course the Abolishionists were deeply religious Protestants, and many Protestant churches split into N/S factions in the 1850s. In the 21st century these churches are gradually reunifying.

The Southern churches embraced a form of textual literalism to justify slavery. In that case it became the sweat of one's own brow, effort exerted to take the fruits of labor away from other men. We see echos of it today. Hispanics aren't welcome in this country, except as essential workers in meat plants in an epidemic, where the nation's supply of cold cuts is more important than their safety as human beings.

Somebody call the ACLU! Forced against their will to make those cold cuts, when they could be living the high-life in Mexico! Outrageous!

At least I won't have to do penance for this crime, as nothing out of a meat plant has come into my house or mouth in 30+ yrs.

You're not disputing the point, that cheap labor under threat is as American as baseball and apple pie, if not as celebrated.
