According to the article it's a livestock slaughter to commemorate a religious holiday. The meat is butchered and distributed.

So ragheads are only 2000 yrs behind the civilized world? Samaritans may be recognized as Jews for political reasons, but they are despised by most other Jews. That was the point behind the "Good Samaritan" parable.

Oh it was wholesale! During Passover, thousands of animals were sacrificed at the temple.

Remember the story of Jesus driving out the money changers? People would come to the temple to tithe, but regular money (which had the ruler's image on it) was not acceptable and had to be exchanged for "Temple money" with no images on it -- at a premium. At the same time, if you brought an animal for sacrifice, it had to be inspected and it would be rejected if the inspectors found any blemish on it. But not to worry, you could buy a pre-inspected animal -- at a premium.
