NY Times: Let's scrap the Presidential debates

They state that the debates exert too much influence in selecting a President. Of course, they are fooling no one. They are terrified of what Biden will say and/or do. At one recent appearance that I watched Biden didn't even know where he was. Worse yet. When Biden was finished he put on black glasses and then a woman took him by the hand and led him away as you would do with a child. He couldn't even exit the building on his own!

For his part, Trump has stated that he would like additional debates. Here is the NY Times article:

If I were Trump I would go ahead. If Biden doesn't want to debate, he can be represented by a straw hat on a mop stick.

Trump's strategy is to bring people down to his level. Given a perception that he's behind in the campaign, the Chaos President would be extra motivated to turn things into a circus.

You must be on his re-election committee to know this strategy?

So now you are lying again and saying that it is Trump's fault that the debates will not happen. If there was some charismatic expert debater running against trump, you would be swearing that Trump was trying to skate around and avoid the debates. The truth is Biden can't compete and the the Marxists are running away from the debates. So you think trump is losing just like you thought he was losing 2016. Come on now and tell us about how Trump had no chance to win. Tell us one damn thing you have ever been right about. Oh, it was the Russians that elected him... you signed on to that lie hook, line, and sinker. You are a bald faced lie. You are a scam artist, a thief in the night, a yellow bellied coward, and traitor. You have no moral compass and I hope you rot in Hell with your heroes Marx, Stalin, Mao, and Castro.

Would it be anything like the circus going on in Portland, & other cities? The circus of free-reign to rioters while cops stand & watch?

So you did not watch the 2016 debates? High minded policy discussions are not his thing. Actually policy discussions of any type bore him. This is the man who doesn't read his briefings with their 36 point font (that's really big BTW). Biden is better informed about what is going on in the country than Trump at this point.

Ray, where have YOU been? Trump doesn't read, doesn't get involved with details of policy. The unemployment insurance renewal, he's leaving it to Munchin and Meadows to deal with Pelosi, having pissing away weeks in which the Senate GOP and administration couldn't even come to agreement. All of that points to a strange passivity on the part of Trump.

RED: agree it takes two to tango, and Biden may conclude that he doesn't want to elevate Trump, impart any gravitas to him. If it goes that way, don't complain--Trump's lack of seriousness about the hard work of actually governing will have brought this about. Besides, he's President and can spout to the cameras anytime he wants, no debate needed.

I still like my idea of a Biden cardboard cut out.
Maybe flanked by men in white coats.

Cannot understand any reason why any rational person would have any confidence in or respect for position advocated by the NYT. JMHO. YMMV. Etc. Etc. Etc. Sincerely. bruce.

Well unlike unpaid bloggers or tabloids, they operate with some allegiance to facts. If they just make stuff up, they risk getting booted from that business. It happens. These days facts have a Liberal bias. 40 years ago they had a Conservative one.

They've been caught in the act many, many times, especially these past 3 1/2 years. CNN has had massive layoffs but still remains in business from liberal contributions and advertisements.

The continued existence of false media is proof that prostitutes will always thrive, no matter what the climate.
