The long lasting deleterious effects of Home Schooling ...

Seems like an odd thing to say considering the equally long
lasting deleterious effects of public schooling.
People are social animals and little people need the company
of other little people in order to learn the social skills necessary
to get along with others in the work force. Being stuck at home
with only a child's parents for the years needed to complete the
child's education starves him or her of the socializing aspect.
This doesn't sound healthy. How is the kid going to get along with
others when he or she enters the work force ?
Home schooling depending on the Parent's ability should offer a
better education than that offered by the liberal propaganda of the
public schools, but at a cost ? School for all it's modern day drawbacks
is where kids form friendships, some long lasting. It's hard to make
friends when you're on your own.
    Just my thoughts.

To damn bad they downplayed the Virus at the beginning, and effed up the diagnostic test. The country got behind the 8-ball and has stayed there ever since. Nurses in hospitals are modular in a way that schoolteachers are not.

The CDC describes a close encounter as >= 15 minutes for <= 6 feet. That's per person who later on turns up Covid positive. So if a teacher has say 100 students in a normal school day, say 5 hours of classes, that's an insane number of close encounters. Sick kids will infect teachers, and other kids, and if teachers start going down, you will not get subs in there (usually retired teachers!) for $100 a day. Plus unlike nurses, teachers need continuity with the kids to figure out how a kid learns.

You wrote: " It's hard to make friends when you're on your own." Very true. This situation is just a hard one, most unfortunate. I hope we can make it up to the young people somehow.

And if kids go to school and come out socialized-and ignorant and illiterate ?

Europes' schools are all open with no deleterious effects. Healthy kids appear to be naturally immune

Euro rates are generally lower. A more disciplined population. Even the Italians, which is really saying something. Amis are soft in the head.

During this lock down, I believe parents monitoring kids online schooling, have found out what their kids are not learning. I hope the parents van tell the difference in "learning" and ondoctronation. I hope they can tell the difference in reingenered American and World History. Schools don't teach civics anymore and how the government works.

I hope the parents are not products of the liberal state education systems, so they can tell the difference in true history, and feel good education.

As far as socializing for home schoolers, my experience with my grand kids is that they DO get together regularly with each other and their non-homeschool friends.

Who the hell is ANY gov't entity to say they will not allow parents to withhold their children from poblic school in favor of charter or private schools OR home schooling.

How can they not be products of that system if they're under 60?

Proves people are idiots if they dont read outside of what a person learned in 10th grade, one hour a day.

What indoctrination is taking place? Geometry? Chemistry? Gym class?

Sex Ed in Kindergarden? Look in your underwear, that's what sex you are, everyone has either two X chromosomes or one X and one Y. No surgery or chemical treatment can change that. Rewrittin history, Columbus, Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, founding fathers are demonized for personal life, not praised for what they accomplished for this country. Liberal leaders like ML King, and other black leaders from the 60s, 70s and 80s (I can't remember their names now) are praised for what they did, and their private lives adulteries are over looked? Is not that a double standard?

Try and find a public school that has any history of communism, and its practicing cluntries have killed more people, their own people, (Russia, China, No Korea, and some African countries) and how it is socialism (loss of personal freedom and total state control of their population) that has failed in every country except China and No Korea where it stll is failing. Try and find a public school that teaches the Japanese atrocities, and how the atomic bomb ended the war and saved millions of lives, both American and Japanese. Instead, they teach America is a war criminal.

There are no moral absolutes, truth is what's right for you. If it feels good then it's OK. First it was what's inside you, then it was how you think, now it is how you feel....emptipn has replaced truth.

The people didn't suck this out of their thumbs.

Really? Kids will grow under any circumstances. The unique circumstances we are experiencing will always stick with them. There are a lot of heroic folks out there that will try their best to get the children the best education they can provide. There will be some politics. When I was in the sixth grade I started to hear about Kennedy. I didn't care if he was Catholic, it meant nothing to me. I "knew" about Ike. Kennedy was the Beatles more or less. When he was shot I didn't cry but it overrode most everything else I was doing for a few days. Yes, I was raised by nice blond young adventurous women who had the guts to go to central Alaska to teach. You could call them liberals. My favorite teacher was Mr. Strunka. I am sure he had some recent European experience. He was the only teacher who motivated me to do my homework. I got an award for most improved student(I was an awful student).
I digress. I also have some concern about the education of small children forthcoming.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

Dryheat - Of course kids will grow under any circumstances. They will learn what is drilled into them 4-6 hr a day. This lockdown gave the parents a chance to see what is being drilled onto them.

I'm sure there are teachers out there that are motovators and want to teach a different courses of study than what's mandated by the local, liberal boards of education, but are trapped by the party line, and paychecks.

Like you, I knew about Ike as Supreme Allied Commander, and watched him get chosen at the GOP convention, and he beat Stevenson for president. I don't remember the beginning of the Korean War. But I remember when the end was announced by Dave Garroway on the news before I rode my bike to grade school. Kids should be aware of what's going on, but unrestrained social media is "more interesting".
