A video of a dog rescues a drowning man, not sure if it' a real event or training. Don't know and I don't know how to get the comments..But either way it's great.. But the dog jumps in and pulls a man who fell out of his canoe and pulls him to shore by his arm...Not sure if it's real or just dog training but either way, it's great to watch.. Talk about GO fetch...

That was fake. Any human who's drowning would bear hug that dog and take it down with them. People in a panic don't make rational judgments, they will grab any thing within reach whether it will save them or not. I had some training in this. Go into the water to save a drowning person only as a last resort, and realize that your chances of survival are slim. First throw them something that will float. A cooler, a spare tire.

I watched my father save my oldest brother(18) from drowning when I was six. We were spending a week in a cabin on a lake in Texas. My sister's boy friend came up to visit and he and my brother swam out to a dock which was about twenty yard off-shore. When they started back the other kid got cramps and my brother was trying to hold him up and was yelling for help and fighting to stay above water. I was playing in the shallows and knowing that I could do nothing was a really sick feeling. My dad heard the commotion and came running from the cabin. He was shedding cloths as he ran. I'll never forget the sight of him diving out of his trousers on the edge of the boat dock. They landed in a neat clump as he hit the water. He got to my brother, and a man who was trained in red cross live saving got to the other kid. He had his family in a small boat, so he didn't get the boat close, but he had a life preserver on and went in the water and pulled the kid to the boat dock. They revived him by picking him up by his swim trunks and his arms and dropping him face down on the dock to get the water out of his lungs and then did lung compressions. I've forgotten a lot of things in my life, but that runs through my mind like a technicolor movie.

Was it a "Newffie" [aka newfoundland], that was bred to jump over the ship of sailing ships and support a "overboarder" till theship turnedaround orluanched a small boat.

The AKC has a trail for that purpose.
